Reacher season 4 finally gets major production update after “addictive” series praised by author Lee Child

Reacher season 4 has officially wrapped filming.

The next season of the show, based on the thirteenth Jack Reacher book ‘Gone Tomorrow’, will center around Reacher (played by Alan Ritchson) investigating a dangerous plot that begins with a single event on the subway.

Although the movie Gone Tomorrow is supposed to take place in New York City, the filmmakers have decided to film in Philadelphia instead, and have changed the story to match. Filming started in June.

“Looking forward to Reacher Season 4 based on Lee Child’s 13th Jack Reacher book Gone Tomorrow.”

Lee Child recently shared why he believes the TV series, created by Nick Santora, is a captivating adaptation of his work.

He praised the fast-moving nature of streaming, telling ShortList that the ability to tell a long, detailed story over an entire season was a major draw.

As a huge Reacher fan, I always loved how complex he is in the books – he’s not just a tough guy, you really get to see all sides of him. I was worried a TV show wouldn’t be able to capture that, especially with shorter episodes. But with this new series, they really took the time to show his depth, and honestly, it makes his character so much more compelling and believable. It’s exactly what I wanted to see!

The storyteller explained their approach: constantly rushing feels the same as having no rhythm at all. It’s important to highlight contrasts – the calm moments actually make the exciting parts more impactful. That’s what made focusing an entire season on a single story so rewarding.

As a huge fan, I totally get why he feels this way! He was saying that writing for streaming is incredibly captivating – almost addictive, even. He’s so confident that if streaming had been around when novelists were starting out, they’d all have chosen it over traditional writing because it’s just a more effective way to tell a story.
