Ready or Not Censors Controversial Content for Console Release

The popular PC tactical shooter game “Ready or Not” is receiving an update to censor its content for both console and PC versions. Console gamers have long requested

It’s official! The long-awaited release of Ready or Not is set for Xbox and PS5 on July 15th. The console version includes all previously released content and offers a deluxe edition that grants access to future downloadable content as they become available. With a price tag of $49.99, some may find it expensive given the game’s age, but its popularity is expected to continue expanding through additional sales. However, a recent development might disappoint some loyal fans.

Ready or Not Censors Nudity, Illicit Child Content, and More For Console Release

In order to adhere to the guidelines set by Sony, Microsoft, and PC platforms, developers of the game “Ready or Not,” VOID Interactive, have announced that the title will undergo censorship across all platforms, including PC. While “Ready or Not” carries an M rating and contains graphic nudity/violence common in many games, the specific content within this game may be perceived differently by platform holders. The decision to censor the PC version is made to establish parity with its console counterparts, thereby preventing unique bugs from arising during updates for one version and ensuring a consistent experience for players participating in crossplay.

The developer pointed out that for crossplay to function properly, the in-game items should be consistent across all platforms. This is because any differences in assets can disrupt the process of multiplayer replication, which refers to the server’s ability to comprehend game events and accommodate players within the same gaming space or server.

In the console version of “Ready or Not”, some minor alterations will be made such as concealing partial nudity on certain non-playable characters and one suspect, softening depictions of torture within character models, and preventing players from dismembering characters once they’ve expired. While the overall level of gore remains unchanged, it can no longer be inflicted postmortem. Additionally, “Ready or Not” has omitted any content that might suggest illegal activities involving children, though the game’s narrative context will still allow players to comprehend the gameplay effectively.

VOID assures that the alterations are minimal, subtle enough that many wouldn’t notice unless specifically mentioned, yet they chose to be open about these modifications with their players. On the other hand, Ready or Not is a game with a rather grim theme, tackling sensitive topics, including a level depicting a school shooting. This inclusion suggests the main gameplay remains unchanged; however, some aspects were deemed too graphic for Microsoft and Sony’s consoles to approve.
