Real-Life Medical Expert Weighs in on Eleven’s Nosebleed in Stranger Things

Everyone is currently buzzing about the show, which just finished its run after nearly ten years. The Netflix series was a huge hit, and now that it’s over, everyone’s discussing it.

Everyone is discussing the latest series, from its controversial moments to the fantastic work of the actors and crew, and even hidden details. Recently, Doctor Mike, a medical professional on YouTube, joined the conversation, offering his expert opinion on some of the injuries depicted in the show and explaining what was happening medically.

Okay, so around the two-minute mark, a real doctor watching the show pointed out something that genuinely bothered me: Eleven’s nosebleeds. It wasn’t just that they happened, but the doctor immediately asked the question we were all thinking – why is she bleeding? They even jokingly suggested Eleven should carry some nasal spray, though quickly clarified that was just a fun thought and not actual medical guidance. It was a smart observation, and honestly, it made me look at those scenes a little differently.

He explained he’d give it to her because she’s a fictional character with superpowers. He then described how, even with those powers, Afrin could be used to stop bleeding by constricting blood vessels in the nose – essentially, a way to ‘hack’ their abilities and keep them functioning.

The show didn’t give a complete explanation for her nosebleeds, but they happened because using her powers was incredibly draining. In Season 5, Will started developing similar powers and began experiencing nosebleeds too.

As a huge fan, one scene that really stuck with me was the mall one, when Eleven gets hurt. The doctor on set actually gave it a funny name – “DFS,” which stood for “Demon Foot Syndrome!” But seriously, I loved how Jonathan handled disinfecting the wound. The doctor even pointed out that he was using gloves and cleaning the knife properly, saying someone was clearly thinking ahead about preventing further infection. It showed a lot of attention to detail, and it was cool to hear the doctor acknowledge that kind of practical thinking on set.

The doctor explained that this procedure is how abscesses are typically treated. It involves making a small cut to drain the infection, which is what he was doing in this case. He strongly cautioned against attempting any surgical procedures on friends or family.

The extended cut featured several extra scenes, like the fight Dustin had in Season 5, Episode 1, Chrissy’s possession, Hopper’s initial battle in the Upside Down, and Eleven tending to his wounds.

Thankfully, they aren’t stitching it up. I’ve seen in movies and TV shows where they try to close deep wounds with stitches, and that’s a bad idea because the bleeding is actually inside the body.

The Stranger Things Universe Continues

As a long-time viewer, I have to say Stranger Things remains a huge draw for Netflix, even though the fifth season officially brought the show to a close. But the story doesn’t end there! They’ve wisely expanded the universe with spin-offs, and the first one we’ve seen is a stage play called Stranger Things: The First Shadow. It’s a really interesting prequel that dives into the backstory of Henry Creel, explaining how he became the villain we know.

Netflix is planning to release several new shows, including its first animated series, ‘Stranger Things: Fales From ’85’, which is expected to premiere this year. This animated series takes place between the second and third seasons of ‘Stranger Things’, during the winter of 1985, and will feature popular characters like Eleven, Mike, Will, Max, Lucas, Dustin, and Hopper.

This new installment features different characters and a different setting, but it still has some connections to the original series. However, our main goal was to bring the story of Hawkins, the Upside Down, and these characters to a definitive conclusion and provide a sense of closure.
