Reba McEntire is fondly remembering her late stepson, Brandon Blackstock. Four months after Brandon passed away after a three-year fight with cancer, the singer posted a heartfelt birthday message on December 16th, marking what would have been his 49th birthday. She shared a throwback photo of them together and wrote, “Happy birthday Brandon! We love and miss you a bunch.” The photo also included Brandon’s siblings – Shawna, Cassidy, and Shelby – all smiling and embracing him, highlighting the close bond they shared with him and with Reba, who shares the children with her ex-husband, Narval Blackstock.
As expected, actress Happy’s Place and her son were among the many celebrities who paid tribute to Brandon after he passed away in August. He is remembered by his children, River Rose, 11, and Remington “Remy” Alexander, 8. That month, Shelby spoke about how much Brandon meant to them, calling him an irreplaceable member of their family.
He shared that his mentor taught him so much and left behind a lifetime of wonderful memories. He expressed sadness about all the experiences they won’t share, but felt his mentor’s presence would always be with him – during adventures like hunts and flights, and even in everyday life. He playfully added that he would try to live up to his mentor’s example, perhaps even surpassing him in skill and looks, though it might frustrate him. They would deeply miss Brandon, but would continue to love, remember, and celebrate his life. Reba echoed these feelings, simply stating they would miss him terribly.
Her support for Brandon didn’t stop at their initial connection. The former Reba star has consistently been a strong advocate for her stepson, even when he and Kelly announced their split in 2020.
“Brandon has felt like a son to me for as long as I can remember,” she shared with Entertainment Tonight in 2021. “Even though he’s my stepson, I love him as if he were my own flesh and blood. I care for both of them deeply, and I don’t take sides because I’ve been friends with Kelly for many years.”
