The 2025 Emmys want to thank the Golden Girls for being a friend.
The award show included a special tribute to the seven-season sitcom and its beloved stars: Beatrice Arthur, Betty White, Rue McLanahan, and Estelle Getty.
Oh my gosh, it was a dream come true! Reba McEntire, along with Karen and Kimberly from Little Big Town, actually *performed* the Friends theme song – “Thank You For Being a Friend”! I nearly lost it! And then, *they* presented the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, and Hannah Einbinder from Hacks won! Seriously, a perfect moment. I was screaming at my TV!
Reba pointed out Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia, and Rose, calling them beloved characters who still resonate with audiences even after four decades on television.
Kimberly went on to say, “To the actors and the stories they told that made us smile, we thank you for being our friends.”
Before the Emmys ceremony, Reba McEntire and her fiancé, Rex Linn, chatted with Zuri Hall on *Live From TopMob: 2025 Emmys* about how much they enjoy the show.
“I still am a fan of it,” Reba gushed. “It’s a show that you can watch forever.”
Rex said that not liking *The Golden Girls* is like not liking puppies – he’s a big fan of the show.
Reba said she most identified with Dorothy, Bea Arthur’s character. The 70-year-old explained, “I think I’m very direct and to the point, just like her. I love Dorothy, she’s hilarious!”
For Reba, after five decades in the entertainment business, the message of friendship in the *Golden Girls* theme song really resonates with her.
She explained that the most rewarding part of working in entertainment, in any field, is the friendships you build along the way. She playfully added that it’s nice to have those friends around, just in case things don’t always go as planned.
The ‘Happy’s Place’ actor added that, ultimately, the best part of working in this industry is the friendships you make.
The Emmy Awards this year won’t just honor *The Golden Girls*. Viewers can also look forward to seeing cast reunions from popular shows like *Grey’s Anatomy*, *Gilmore Girls*, and *Law & Order* during the broadcast.
