The popular show Peaky Blinders is returning, but this season features a first for the series: a full-length film, The Immortal Man. Alongside familiar characters like Tommy, Arthur, and Ada Shelby, several new actors are joining the cast, most notably Rebecca Ferguson, known for her role in Dune.
Even after the trailer for The Immortal Man was released, details about Ferguson’s character in Peaky Blinders are still unclear, and that seems intentional. She plays a Romani fortune teller who knows a lot about Tommy Shelby’s history and also has a connection to his son, Duke.
Rebecca Ferguson’s character adds a powerful female presence to the story, balancing out Cillian Murphy’s role. She essentially takes on the combined roles of two beloved but tragic characters, Grace Burgess and Polly Gray, from the original Peaky Blinders series.
Rebecca Ferguson Plays Kaulo In Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
Rebecca Ferguson’s character, Kaulo, is the most mysterious of the new faces joining the world of Peaky Blinders. In the movie’s trailer, she’s shown reprimanding Tommy Shelby for leaving his “kingdom” and then hints at trouble involving his son, Duke.
Kaulo’s speech includes a Romani accent, hinting at a connection to the nomadic ancestors of the Shelby family. This choice aligns with her character’s name, derived from the Romani word “kalo,” which means “black.”
Kaulo also possesses unique spiritual abilities, potentially explaining how she appears to be so knowledgeable about Tommy’s past. The trailer doesn’t reveal if Tommy has met her before, or if this is their first encounter.
Kaulo Is A Mysterious Psychic & Potential Tommy Shelby Love Interest
Rebecca Ferguson plays a character described as a “mysterious medium” in The Immortal Man. Beyond that, very little is known about her – not even her name or role in the film is fully revealed in the trailer. Some speculate that her Romani heritage might connect her to the Shelby family, potentially through a long-standing family history.
Kaulo could become Tommy Shelby’s primary love interest in the film, and her mysterious side might make her even more attractive to him. Regardless, her character shares similarities with the key women from the original Peaky Blinders TV show.
Ferguson’s Peaky Blinders Role Replaces Polly & Grace From The TV Series
Two of the most heartbreaking events in Peaky Blinders are the deaths of Tommy Shelby’s wife, Grace, and Polly Gray. Polly’s death in the show coincided with the real-life passing of Helen McCrory, the actress who played her. Many viewers consider McCrory’s performance as Polly to be the strongest in the series, even better than Cillian Murphy’s iconic portrayal of Tommy.
Polly was a remarkably strong personality, and that energy seems to influence Ferguson’s portrayal of Kaulo. We can see this in how Kaulo speaks to Tommy in the trailer for The Immortal Man – it’s very motherly. There’s also a similarity between how Kaulo talks about Duke Shelby and the way Polly fiercely protects her son, Michael.
If Tommy Shelby and Kaulo become a couple, she could be his most captivating romantic interest since Grace’s death in season 3 of Peaky Blinders. The enigmatic nature of Kaulo’s character might echo Grace’s secret mission from the show’s first season.
