Rebecca Gayheart Reacts to AI Recreation of Eric Dane’s Voice

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always moved by stories of legacy and connection. It’s incredibly touching to hear about the late actor, who sadly passed away in February at 53 after a brave battle with ALS. Before he died, he participated in a project to restore his voice, and his ex-wife, Rebecca Gayheart, was absolutely blown away by the results. It just shows how much impact we can have, even after we’re gone, and how meaningful those connections remain.

In a clip from a panel discussion at SXSW in Austin on March 13, she told Fast Company it felt incredibly genuine. She described it as a very emotional time, not just for her family, but also for the nurses and friends who were providing support.

Despite battling his illness, the actor found some comfort in new technology. ElevenLabs, an AI company, created a voice based on recordings of him, offering a positive development during a difficult time.

Rebecca explained they were amazed by how natural the voice sounded—it truly resembled Eric’s own. She added that this offered Eric a lot of hope, especially since he was losing his ability to speak, and it was wonderful to witness.

Just days before, the 54-year-old—who had separated from Eric in 2017 but was still married to him when he passed away—explained that working on the project had brought their family some peace during the actor’s illness.

She told Variety in an interview on March 11th that everyone was concerned about his existing voice problems. Having a solution prepared gave them a lot of relief.

Since Eric’s death, Rebecca and their daughters, Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14, have received a lot of support and kind words from Eric’s friends and colleagues in Hollywood, which has been a great comfort to them.

She expressed her gratitude to everyone for their support over the past two years, describing it as a time that was both difficult and rewarding. She was touched by the kindness people showed them.

Rebecca also thanked Eric’s close friends and family, saying they’ve been a huge support to her and the children over the past two weeks.

Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart have always kept the details of how they met private, with Dane jokingly saying it’s likely a very unremarkable story.

Oh my god, he told Flaunt magazine about how it all started, and it’s just so perfect! Apparently, he just casually asked, ‘Wanna go out?’ and I mean, obviously, the answer was ‘Yeah, sure!’ Can you believe it? Ten months later, they were already married! It’s like something out of a movie, honestly. I’ve listened to him tell that story a million times and it still gives me chills!

Less than one year after they began dating, the couple exchanged vows in Las Vegas. 

Following Dane’s announcement that he was departing the TV series The Last Ship as he dealt with depression, Gayheart used Instagram to publicly express her support for him.

“Way back when I met my Monday man crush,” Gayheart captioned a throwback photo of the couple. 

When filing for divorce, Gayheart stated that she and her spouse had irreconcilable differences. She requested financial support and shared custody of their daughters, Billie and Georgia.

As many of you know, my partner and I have decided to separate after 14 wonderful years together. It wasn’t an easy decision, but we truly believe it’s the right one for our family’s future. We’re committed to remaining close friends and, most importantly, to co-parenting our two daughters with love and teamwork. They are, and always will be, our absolute priority.

Despite never officially divorcing, Dane shared in 2019 with Entertainment Tonight that he and his ex-partner remained friends and successfully co-parented their two children. He explained, “It’s not complicated…it doesn’t have to be.”

Ten years after a nude video featuring Dane and former Miss Teen USA Kari Ann Peniche appeared online and caused a public scandal, Dane recently spoke about the incident in a rare interview.

He recently revisited a previous statement about the incident, telling Glamour he doesn’t regret his response. ‘I keep thinking about what I said, and honestly, it wasn’t a mistake,’ he explained. ‘It involved three adults who all agreed, and one of them was my wife. I didn’t do anything wrong.’

He clarified that his earlier statements probably concerned the drug use hinted at in the video.

When asked if it was a mistake, the former Grey’s Anatomy star said they didn’t believe they did anything illegal or influenced anyone improperly. They described the situation as simply three people sharing a bath.

He finished by saying he stood by everything he’d done and felt completely at peace with his life. He had no regrets and wouldn’t change a thing.

When the tape became public in 2009, Dane and Gayheart sued Gawker Media for copyright infringement, seeking $1 million in damages. The case was eventually settled for a substantial amount, reportedly over $100,000.

Rumors of a rekindled romance began circulating when the couple traveled to Europe with their two daughters. The actress, known for her role in Jawbreaker, posted photos from the trip, including one of Dane playfully making a face at the camera with their girls.

“This is us,” Gayheart captioned the Instagram post. “Family vacay 2022.”

The group shared another photo from their European trip, this one taken on a Parisian street with everyone smiling. She captioned it online, “A quick stop in Paris!”

The group traveled along the coast to St. Tropez, and Gayheart shared updates from their trip on her Instagram Stories. She posted a picture of the group with a friend, captioning it “My people.”

While she filed for divorce in 2018, Dane and Gayheart kicked off the New Year as one big family.

The actors from Euphoria and Beverly Hills, 90210 were seen holding hands as they stepped off a boat with their two daughters during a family vacation.

Gayheart filed to dismiss her divorce petition, seven years after submitting the papers.
