It feels like every possible idea has been explored in side-scrolling puzzle platformers, but occasionally a new game surprises us and shows there’s still room for innovation.
MotionRec, a game created by indie developer HANDSUM, has a unique feature: you can record your movements and replay them to overcome challenges that would normally be impossible.
The game was featured in Sony’s State of Play Japan broadcast:
You can record yourself completing a section of the game, like walking on solid ground, and then use that recording to overcome obstacles, such as gaps, later in the level.

The game focuses on exploring levels and capturing key moments of gameplay to progress.
We really like its cute, pixelated art style too.
The game is coming to PS5 in Spring 2026, so it’s just a few months away.
What are your thoughts on MotionRec? Does a puzzle platformer like this sound appealing to you? Let us know in the comments!
