Okay, amazing news for all of us Red Dead fans! Rockstar just officially confirmed that the original Red Dead Redemption is coming to the PS5! And get this – it’s launching on December 2nd, 2025! Even better, if you already own the game on PS4, you’ll get the PS5 version completely free. I’m so hyped!
The YouTube description says you can continue where you left off if you played the game on PlayStation 4, and the game will also include several other improvements.
For the past year, there’s been a lot of talk about Red Dead Redemption 2 potentially getting a special upgrade for the PlayStation 5. But what if the first game in the series is the one that gets it instead?

A new age rating from the ESRB board suggests so.
Red Dead Redemption, the original game, is now rated for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Games typically receive age ratings close to their release date, so this rating might indicate that Rockstar is currently working on a new project. The game’s description hints at zombie-themed gameplay, possibly including content similar to the ‘Undead Nightmare’ expansion.
Originally launched on PlayStation 3 in 2010, Red Dead Redemption first came to PlayStation 4 a little over two years ago as a simple update with limited technical enhancements. It was then improved to run at a smoother 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5.
Rockstar likely sees this release as a way to bring Red Dead Redemption to the Switch 2. However, if the PS5 version also receives visual or technical improvements, that would be welcome. Rumors suggest Rockstar might also be planning a bundle with both Red Dead Redemption games available on PS5.
