The Red Dead Redemption 2 community recently uncovered a string of puzzling clues, sparking debate about whether they were deliberately placed by Rockstar Games or just a dead end. Adam Butterworth, a former quality assurance tester at the studio, has now confirmed the clues were intentional. He also admitted he was surprised players managed to find them, as he previously believed they would remain hidden.
He expressed amazement that anyone had found it, recalling a time when he thought it would remain lost forever.
Butterworth’s message reminded everyone that these clues have been hidden in Red Dead Redemption 2 since the game first came out in 2018. Rockstar Games hasn’t added any big updates to the game that would suggest these clues are new, and they haven’t said anything about the ongoing search either. This has allowed players to discover and solve the puzzles themselves.
Last month, players in the game stumbled upon a strange spider symbol carved into telegraph poles scattered across the map. They realized this symbol fit perfectly over the game’s map, with its legs indicating where to find additional clues in the Lemoyne and New Hanover regions. Further investigation revealed spider webs and red and white feathers attached to many of these poles. Interestingly, the center of the spider carving aligned with a specific point on the game map, hiding a large spider web that cleverly formed the letter “N” and symbolized a telegraph pole itself.
When players discovered hidden carvings on telegraph poles – revealed only when shot – the Red Dead Redemption 2 community mobilized to find them all. These carvings provided a series of clues, ultimately leading players to Fort Wallace and a glyph of an acoustic guitar. Inside the fort, more guitar symbols pointed the way, eventually guiding players to the roof of one of the towers. There, they found simple carvings of birds with outstretched wings. The community is still trying to decipher the meaning of this discovery, with some believing the birds point towards Calumet Ravine, which also contains the Giant’s cave.
You can play Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you have a newer PlayStation or Xbox, you might be able to play it through backwards compatibility. There’s also been talk of a remastered version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
It’s amazing someone actually found this! I recall hearing about it and doubting it would ever be uncovered. 😄
