It’s been a rough patch for Red Dwarf enthusiasts, as a special episode was unexpectedly cancelled by UKTV. However, there’s good news: fans will soon get a chance to enjoy some of the show’s most memorable scenes again.
The iconic sound from the original TV series, a beloved sci-fi comedy, will soon be available as BBC audiobooks.
You’ll be able to get the audiobooks, including Red Dwarf: Series I to IV and V to VIII (based on the BBC TV soundtracks), starting November 20th. Stay tuned for more details!
Fans recently learned that a new episode of Red Dwarf won’t be happening, after co-creator Doug Naylor shared that UKTV cancelled the project last year.

Working with Doug Naylor and the talented cast has been a real pleasure. Our collaboration started with the successful ‘Back to Earth’ specials, which drew in 4 million viewers, and has continued through three full series, a look back at the show’s history, and ‘Red Dwarf’s’ very first full-length movie, ‘The Promised Land’.
Yes, that’s definitely a possibility,” he confirmed. “I’ve made it public this week, and we’re now starting to explore options. The cast is very enthusiastic about continuing the project.
I’m really excited about a movie I’ve been working on called ‘Out of the Red’! It’s about two-thirds finished, and it’s a fun concept – we all play fictionalized versions of ourselves. There’s a lot of buzz around it, and both a distributor and a production company are seriously considering getting involved, which is a great sign!
I actually discussed this earlier today, so it’s still a potential option. It’s not off the table, Dave – not yet, anyway!
With news on more Red Dwarf taking a while, I’ve been revisiting all the classic episodes as audio dramas – it’s the next best thing to watching! Honestly, I’m really hoping we don’t have to wait much longer to see Lister, Rimmer, Cat, and Kryten back on my screen. Fingers crossed for a new series soon!
Starting November 20th, you’ll be able to listen to the new BBC audiobooks, featuring Series I to IV and V to VIII of Red Dwarf, as well as the original BBC TV soundtracks. You can also watch Red Dwarf on BBC iPlayer.
