A game originally released only for the Sega Saturn in 1996 is now available for free as a remake. The Sega Saturn, launched in Japan in 1994 and in the US and Europe in 1995, had a relatively short lifespan, being discontinued in Western markets by 1998 and in Japan by 2000. Because of this, the console doesn’t have a huge number of games, but there are still some fondly remembered titles that were exclusive to it.
The Panzer Dragoon series, consisting of Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei, and Panzer Dragoon Saga, was originally released exclusively for the Sega Saturn. While Panzer Dragoon Saga remains only playable on the original console, Panzer Dragoon received a remake in 2021. A remake of Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei was planned for 2021, but it was delayed and never released in 2022, 2023, or 2024. Recently, in 2025, news surfaced that it’s coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A release date hasn’t been announced, but a free demo is now available on PC through Steam. This demo is likely the same one shown at last year’s Tokyo Game Show, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
New Free Demo for Remade Sega Saturn Classic
MegaPixel Studio and Storm Trident have released a free demo for their game, published by Forever Entertainment, as part of the Steam Next Fest: February 2026 event. The game will cost $24.99. A new trailer showcasing the demo’s content is also available to watch.
The demo lets players experience the second level of the game and test out two different Dragon evolutions. The developers believe it’s a great way to showcase the game’s improved graphics, smoother gameplay, and overall experience.
The original game was well-received, scoring an 88 on GameRankings and ranking among the best of its year, particularly on the Sega Saturn. While a full release isn’t widely anticipated, fans of the classic Sega series are excited and hopeful this demo will be excellent.
