A beloved Sega Dreamcast game from the late 90s is finally coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X later this month. It was previously available only on Nintendo Switch and PC. Players on PlayStation and Xbox will be able to experience the classic game starting October 24th for $24.99.
Sega fans have had a lot to celebrate recently! Two highly anticipated games, both revivals of classic Sega series, are coming out in 2025, and they’re releasing close together. Now, get ready for the return of *The House of the Dead*!
About the Game
MegaPixel Studio and Forever Entertainment first launched a remastered version of the beloved rail shooter on Nintendo Switch and PC on August 7th. Now, players on Xbox and PlayStation (both current and previous generations) will be able to experience it starting October 23rd.
Released first in arcades in 1998, *The House of the Dead 2* is a rail shooter game created by Sega AM1. It later came to the Sega Dreamcast in 1999, followed by a PC version in 2001 and a Wii version in 2008. As the second game in *The House of the Dead* series, it received a 77% score on GameRankings and was a popular title for the Dreamcast when it launched.
The remake boasts updated music and graphics while staying true to the original game’s core gameplay. However, it hasn’t been well-received overall. It currently has a score of 68 on Metacritic, which is average. Player reviews are even less positive, with a 39% approval rating on Steam. Most players feel this remake is a significant downgrade compared to the well-regarded remake of the first game released in 2022.
If you didn’t experience *The House of the Dead 2* when it first came out, this release probably won’t appeal to you – it’s mostly for those feeling nostalgic. New players shouldn’t expect a lengthy experience either, as even though it costs $24.99, the game only takes about an hour or two to complete. This was typical for arcade games and rail shooters of that era.
