A classic game originally released for the PlayStation 1 in 1999 is getting a modern update. It first launched on Nintendo Switch in June 2024, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on January 30, 2026. Originally developed by SquareSoft – before it became Square Enix in 2003 – the game was a PlayStation exclusive in the late 1990s and never appeared on any other platform until now.
Players on PC, Xbox (both current and previous generations), and PlayStation (both current and previous generations) will soon be able to experience Front Mission 3, which is being fully remade. This remake updates the 1999 tactical RPG, the third main game and fifth overall entry in the Front Mission series. The series began in 1995, but hasn’t had a new installment since 2010, with the exception of the 2019 title Left Alive.
A Forgotten But Great Square Enix RPG
Released in 1999, Front Mission 3 received a good score of 84 on GameRankings. However, when people think of classic Square Enix RPGs, they usually picture series like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Front Mission has largely been overlooked, though recent remakes are helping to change that.
Not the First Remake
If you’re experiencing a sense of familiarity, it’s likely because remakes of the first two Front Mission games came out in 2022 and 2024. There’s been a lot of new Front Mission content recently, but it hasn’t been developed by Square Enix. Instead, MegaPixel Studio developed the remakes, and Forever Entertainment published them.
Before the full game comes out on [date – not provided in original text] for $34.99, players can try a free demo on all gaming platforms. It’s currently unknown how much of the game the demo includes.
What’s Different From the Original PS1 Game
This remake features updated graphics and animations, along with a refreshed soundtrack. But the biggest addition is a new “Quick Combat” mode, designed for fast-paced battles. Players can also now customize their Wanzers with various camouflage options.
