Remake of Iconic SEGA Saturn Shooter Panzer Dragoon II Zwei Confirmed for PS5, PS4

The classic rail shooter game Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, which gained widespread recognition on the Sega Saturn, is set to be re-released for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles.

The game, previously announced by Forever Entertainment, now seems to be ready for mainstream release. Players will have the opportunity to experience it during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show later in October.

As of now, we don’t have a set launch date, but you can expect to pay $24.99 when it becomes available for purchase.

Here’s what the official blurb says about it:

The revamped version of Panzer Dragoon II Zwei brings new life to the classic rail shooter franchise’s second installment. This game transports you to a distinctive realm teeming with ancient relics, political intrigue, and enigmatic creatures that collectively dictate the destiny of an entire landmass.

2020 saw a revamped version of the initial Panzer Dragoon game release on the PlayStation 4. However, it received mixed reviews from critics. Most criticisms centered around the price, length, and control mechanics. It will be intriguing to observe if these issues have been addressed or improved in the upcoming sequel.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the press release highlighting the “graphics reminiscent of the original design” and the introduction of a few control systems, one embracing a more updated approach.

Examining the provided images, the title appears slightly less engaging without its basic, blocky design elements. However, we won’t make a final decision until we see it in action.

For individuals unaware, Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei was initially released in 1996 and received widespread acclaim. This game is often regarded as one of the top titles on the Sega Saturn console.

A third title, the RPG named Panzer Dragoon Saga, released on the SEGA Saturn in 1998.

Subsequently, the fourth installment, Panzer Dragoon Orta, was debuted exclusively on the original Xbox in 2002. It’s intriguing to wonder whether any of these might receive a remake in the future.
