Remakes of Two Wii Games Announced for Nintendo Switch 2

As a Nintendo fan, I was really surprised to hear that two Wii games are coming to the Switch 2! It’s funny because the Wii wasn’t really known for its amazing games library – it was the console itself and how innovative it was that people loved. While the Wii didn’t have a ton of all-time classic titles like some other Nintendo consoles, it did have a few gems that were exclusive to it. These two upcoming games aren’t necessarily those legendary titles, but I have a feeling a lot of us are going to get a serious wave of nostalgia when they drop!

Two classic Wii games are making a comeback on Nintendo Switch 2. First, Bit.Trip Runner, a fast-paced rhythm game, is being remastered as Bit.Trip Rerunner. Also coming is Epic Mickey, which received a remake called Epic Mickey Rebrushed in 2024 for Switch and other consoles, and will now be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2.

Bit.Trip Rerunner

If you’re not familiar with Bit.Trip Runner, it originally launched in 2010 as an exclusive game for the Nintendo Wii. It later came to the 3DS in 2011. While the game received a score of 76 on Metacritic at launch, it largely faded from view until 2023, when a remake was released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Now, that same remake is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. This marks the first time Switch owners will be able to play the updated version, as it was never released on the original Switch. It’s worth noting that this remake was developed by Choice Provisions, not the original creators of the game.

Because this updated version doesn’t have a Metacritic score, it’s hard to directly compare to the original. However, players really seem to like it – it has a 97% positive rating on Steam, for example.

Epic Mickey Rebrushed

Originally launched in 2010, Epic Mickey was developed by Junction Point Studios, led by Warren Spector—the creator of Deus Ex—and published by Disney Interactive Studios. While the game received a Metacritic score of 73, it gained a dedicated fanbase and broad appeal thanks to its connection to the Mickey Mouse franchise. This popularity led to two sequels and a remake released in 2024.

A new version of this game was created by a different development team than the original, Purple Lamp, and published by THQ Nordic. Surprisingly, the remake received better reviews than the first game, averaging scores between 75 and 80 across various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. This means players can currently enjoy it on Switch through backward compatibility. But on October 6, 2026, a version specifically designed for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released.
