A remastered version of a game originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012 is launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 26th. However, many Nintendo fans may have already experienced it, as the remaster became available on the original Nintendo Switch, as well as PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, earlier in 2024. The Switch 2 version will be available digitally through the Nintendo eShop, and also as a physical copy – though details about how widely the physical version will be released are currently unknown.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is a remastered version of the 2012 action game Lollipop Chainsaw, originally developed by Grasshopper Manufacture. The first game gained a dedicated following and received a Metacritic score of 70, while the remaster scored a similar 68. While not high scores, Lollipop Chainsaw proved popular with fans and sold over a million copies.
What’s New With the Nintendo Switch 2 Version
Dragami Games says the Nintendo Switch 2 version of their game looks much better thanks to several graphical improvements over the original Switch game, though they haven’t specified exactly what those improvements are. They also promise a noticeably smoother experience with a much better frame rate.
A 13-Year-Old Cult Classic
If you haven’t heard of Lolipop Chainsaw, it’s a pretty unique game for a couple of reasons. It gained a decent following, and it was made by famous game designer Goichi Suda and filmmaker James Gunn. Interestingly, it actually directly inspired Gunn’s 2021 film, The Suicide Squad. In the game, you play as a zombie-hunting cheerleader battling hordes of the undead at a California high school. And it’s just as wild and over-the-top as that sounds!
Since the original game wasn’t available on Nintendo consoles, it’s hard to predict how well a remastered version will do on the Switch 2. However, the fact that the first game sold well on Switch suggests there’s definitely a demand for a new version on the next console.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! Please leave a comment or join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum. Are you planning to play this game when it’s released on Nintendo Switch 2 in March?
