When the creators at SloClap, known for their exceptional martial arts game Sifu, unveiled something unexpectedly distinct in Rematch, it inevitably led to a tinge of dismay among certain spectators. The studio’s creative director expresses his apologies for this development.
According to Pierre Tarno, speaking to GamesRadar, when the Rematch reveal trailer began with “from the team behind Sifu,” fans immediately thought, “It seems like a sequel to Sifu is on its way.
He goes on to say: “I apologize for any confusion caused as I believe we ought to have informed the Sifu community earlier that we were planning to unveil a new game, but it won’t be Sifu 2.”
Frankly speaking, that reveal trailer deceived us too. Honestly, we never thought SloClap would introduce a football-themed multiplayer game. However, considering the massive success of Rematch, their forward-thinking approach is nothing short of impressive.
Tarno mentioned that they offered over a year and a half of assistance following the release of Sifu, and they felt they had put in their maximum effort and resources for the game.
Absolutely, Sifu’s post-release updates were truly impressive. The developers continuously enriched the game by introducing challenging difficulty levels, various game modes, new costumes, and numerous other features for about 2.5 years following its launch.
To put it in my gaming perspective, here’s the deal: Developers these days are basically told to stay in their designated lane, churning out games from a single genre or cranking out sequels of a hit game.
He points out that we’re uniquely positioned to delve into creative endeavors that ignite our passion, an opportunity not all developers get to experience.
Is there a chance that Sifu might come back? It seems as though we shouldn’t rule it out completely, but Tarno isn’t giving us any clear indications either way.
“For the moment it was better to let [Sifu] rest,” he clarifies.
Were you among those Sifu enthusiasts who were let down? Had you been anticipating a follow-up? Do you believe there’s still hope for one? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments below!
