Replaced Aiming for 4K/60 FPS on Xbox Series X, Average Playtime is About 8 Hours, Says Developer

Sad Cat Studios’ Replaced features beautiful 2.5D pixel art and engaging side-scrolling action, with opportunities to explore towns and chat with characters. According to the game’s director, Yura Zhdanovich, and composer, Igor Gritsay, a typical playthrough should take about eight hours.

The game’s length varies depending on how much optional content players choose to explore. The developer isn’t pushing any side quests on anyone, so playtime really comes down to individual playstyle. A typical playthrough might take around 8 hours, but completionists who seek out everything could spend 11 or 12 hours.

During our conversation, the developers were putting the finishing touches on the game, especially since it has demanding graphics. They’re aiming for a locked resolution of 4K and a frame rate of 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X. Players on the Xbox Series S should expect gameplay at 1440p and 60 FPS, assuming everything runs smoothly.

It’s interesting why Sad Cat Studios didn’t release Replaced on PlayStation 5. They explained that when they began development and talked to different platform holders, they chose to launch it first on Xbox and include it with Game Pass, believing it was the best approach for their game. When asked about a possible release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the developer simply stated they couldn’t confirm any further platforms at this time.

Considering how long it takes to develop a game, and with current global issues like the war in Ukraine, it makes sense that the developers are concentrating on the platforms they’ve already announced. If the game, Replaced, does well, they might then have the funding and player interest to create versions for other systems.

The game launches on April 14th for Xbox Series X/S and PC. You can watch new gameplay footage now, showing the R.E.A.C.H. team arriving at the station and meeting the people who live there, like the Council and Susan, who owns the arcade.
