Rumors about a remake of Resident Evil 0 are resurfacing, fueled by a recent report detailing potential casting choices and the project’s internal code name.
MP1ST, a gaming news site, confirms earlier reports from IGN and VGC in May 2024 that Capcom is planning remakes of both Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica. They say the Resident Evil 0 remake is currently known internally as “Chamber,” a nod to the game’s character Rebecca Chambers.
Actor Jon McLaren, known for his voice work in games like Far Cry 5 and Guardians of the Galaxy, has indicated he’s a leading actor in Project Chamber, a new, high-profile video game. This suggests he’ll be playing the character Billy Coen in the game, taking over the role from James Kee who originally portrayed him.
The website indicates the new project will build upon story elements and locations from the original Nintendo GameCube game. While avoiding spoilers, they hint that the train conductor from the beginning of the game will be more important this time around.
According to unconfirmed reports, the Resident Evil 0 remake isn’t expected to be released for several years—possibly as late as 2028. The remake of Code Veronica is currently slated for 2027, and Resident Evil Requiem is planned for release in February of next year.
After the conclusion of the Separate Ways DLC for the Resident Evil 4 remake, many believed Capcom would remake Resident Evil 5. But recent reports and discussions suggest the company is now focusing on remaking some of its older games from the GameCube and PlayStation 2 eras.
As a huge Resident Evil fan, I’m so excited that they’ve completely updated Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 with amazing modern graphics! And it’s great that even older games like Resident Evil 0, which originally came out on GameCube, are now easy to play on my PS5 – it was eventually released on PS3 and PS4, so backwards compatibility makes it perfect!
