It appears that *Resident Evil Requiem* will mark a significant turning point for the series. Longtime fans know the *Resident Evil* story has become quite complex over the years, with many characters and plotlines appearing and disappearing. *Resident Evil 7* felt like a fresh start, though it still connected to the existing lore. Now, *Resident Evil Requiem* aims to return the series to its roots.
The latest Resident Evil game, the ninth major installment, will take players back to the ruined city of Raccoon City, years after its destruction. Trailers suggest we’ll be exploring the bombed-out remains, a place whose viral outbreak was covered up and deeply impacted the events of later games. It seems we’re returning to the source of it all, possibly to finally resolve the story.
Resident Evil Requiem Will Reportedly End Leon Kennedy’s Story
Well-known Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem recently tweeted that Leon Kennedy will be a character in the upcoming *Resident Evil Requiem*. He’s mentioned this before, but added that we’ll get a full reveal of Leon before the game launches. Golem also suggested there will be other playable characters besides Leon, which fans already suspected after seeing Alyssa Ashcroft in trailers for *Resident Evil Requiem*.
No one, as far as I’m aware, predicted that this would definitively end the Umbrella Corporation’s storyline. I’m interested to see how people react when it actually happens, especially considering I’ve hinted at more than just Leon’s involvement.

Rumors suggest this game will be Leon Kennedy’s final appearance, and that it will finally resolve the story of Umbrella Corporation for good. It’s not yet known what this means for the future of the *Resident Evil* series – will Capcom restart the timeline with a fresh beginning? It’s possible. However, the source also hinted that Leon might appear in future games set *before* this one. This leads to speculation that Leon could die in this upcoming game, though that’s just a guess at this point.
It seems Capcom is aiming to neatly conclude the current storyline and potentially begin a new chapter for Resident Evil. Whether fans will embrace this direction is uncertain, but it wouldn’t be the most controversial decision the series has ever made.
