Zach Cregger, the director of the upcoming “Resident Evil” film, shared his enthusiasm for the series and discussed what fans can anticipate in an interview with egmr.ru. The Resident Evil video game franchise is well-known for its horror genre, boasting a variety of terrifying elements such as zombies, werewolves, vampires, and families affected by mold. Despite being primarily recognized as a zombie series, the franchise has explored numerous themes over the years. Several movies have attempted to adapt the series in the past, with varying success.
Zach Cregger, director of “Barbarian” and “Weapons”, is set to tackle the world of “Resident Evil”. Production on the film is expected to start shortly, with a release slated for next fall. Details about the new “Resident Evil” movie are scarce, but given that previous adaptations have deviated from the source material, fans are eagerly awaiting Cregger’s unique take on the project. During an interview for his latest film, “Weapons”, Cregger revealed his enthusiasm for the “Resident Evil” series and hinted that the movie will be “awesome”.
Cregger shared, ‘I adore the video games, and I’ve played every single one of them. I’ve even replayed Resident Evil 4 about a hundred times! It’s my obsession. So, I’m eager to narrate a tale that captures the essence of playing these games. I haven’t watched the movies, but they’re not my cup of tea. However, the games are where my passion lies…I have high hopes for the movie; I believe it will be fantastic!’
It’s intriguing to learn that Cregger hasn’t watched any other Resident Evil movies, which could be beneficial given their peculiar and disorganized nature. He appears to have a deep affection for the games, though. Cregger has admitted to taking some creative liberties with the Resident Evil universe in his film, but it seems he aims to deliver an authentic experience. There’s been a buzz suggesting that the Resident Evil movie will unfold near Racoon City and could be set during Resident Evil 2 and 3, given a major outbreak is hinted at in the plot summary.
Resident Evil will hit theaters on September 18th, 2026.
