During the most recent Capcom Showcase, a glimpse of Resident Evil: Vengeance was seen, as the development team discussed the fundamental themes and main character. Moreover, they verified that the narrative unfolds 30 years after the nuclear attack on Raccoon City from Resident Evil 2.
In simpler terms, Director Koshi Nakanishi emphasizes “Compelling Fear” as the primary theme, suggesting that triumphing over fear incites a desire to keep playing more. Grace Ashcroft is a unique character in the series – she’s easily frightened, but with her FBI education, she has strong analytical skills and proficiency in handling firearms.
It’s worth noting that the team initially thought about featuring Leon S. Kennedy as the main character, but they found it challenging to create a horror game around him. They also felt that he wasn’t quite the right fit for this particular story. Although they didn’t explicitly state his absence, there remains a glimmer of hope that we might see him in a future installment.
Interesting aspects also involve the development of visual effects, such as Grace’s face becoming red due to hanging upside down and the convincing hair dynamics (with the team using an actual wig as reference). High anticipation surrounds Requiem, given all that has occurred in the series so far. However, it is also regarded as a “farewell” or tribute to the characters who have preceded.
On February 27th, 2026, the game titled “Resident Evil Requiem” will become available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. Players will have a chance to experience it at Gamescom in August. Notably, this game has already surpassed one million wishlists.
