The recent Resident Evil Showcase revealed a lot more about the upcoming game, Resident Evil Requiem. As previously announced at The Game Awards, Leon will return with new abilities, including new finishing moves, and a Tomahawk that can be upgraded and used to deflect attacks, among other improvements.
The Tomahawk is great for stopping chainsaw attacks and can also be used for silent takedowns. Leon can aim for specific body parts to stun zombies, giving him space to maneuver, or quickly finish them off with a close-range attack, similar to a handgun execution. If enemies drop weapons like the chainsaw, Leon can use them a limited number of times.
He’s still with the DSO, but after years battling bioterrorist groups, he’s facing his toughest challenge yet. These aren’t typical zombies; they keep fragments of their former lives – for example, a zombie who used to be a janitor will still try to clean. Paying attention to these lingering habits is the key to defeating them.
Grace plays more cautiously, relying on stealth and conserving ammunition. While heavy weapons are scarce, she has a powerful revolver called the Requiem, which is useful in tight spots but has limited ammo. Crafting now works similarly to Resident Evil 2, but you’ll need to collect infected blood – meaning you’ll have to get close to enemies. A new and interesting item is the Specialized Injector, which stops bodies from turning into monsters.
The game Resident Evil Requiem will be available on February 27th for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. According to producer Masato Kumazawa, Capcom’s decision to revisit the story of Raccoon City wasn’t just driven by their own interest—fan requests also influenced the development.
I was really happy to see so much positive feedback from everyone, but a lot of us were also hoping to see the main story continue. That’s why the team decided to focus on the Raccoon City incident! And don’t worry, it won’t just be the city – we’ll be visiting other iconic places too, like the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center. It’s going to be a great mix of familiar and new locations!
