After a long wait since it was first announced last June, Resident Evil Requiem is now available. This is exciting news for fans, as the game returns to Raccoon City decades after its destruction – an event that shaped the entire series. Players can expect to uncover secrets, reconnect with familiar faces, and face new dangers. However, experienced players will find that the core principles of survival remain the same.
This installment differs from previous ones—you don’t just rush in guns blazing or carefully conserve every bullet. Instead, Requiem blends both approaches, and it’s incredibly satisfying, even while you’re under pressure.
Okay, so I’m really excited about Requiem, and I’ve put together a guide with 15 essential tips to help you survive the game’s scary world. I want to share what I’ve learned so you can avoid the worst nightmares and actually enjoy the experience!
Tactical Coward
Grace’s gameplay emphasizes stealth, as the previews suggested. You’ll want to avoid fights whenever possible, carefully manage your limited ammunition, and sneak past enemies. Direct combat with enemies should only happen when absolutely necessary, considering her scarce resources.
We All Fall Down
Fortunately, there are simple strategies to conserve ammo and protect Grace. When facing zombies, focus your shots on their legs – this will make them fall to their knees, just like in classic Resident Evil games. You can then quickly finish them off with a close-combat attack. Headshots are effective for a final blow, but you can also use them, or simply run past, to create some distance when needed.
Hunter and Prey
The enemy chasing Grace is incredibly dangerous and relentless. She’s quick to change position and finds you with surprising speed. Trying to fight her early on is a losing battle, so focus on learning her movement patterns and slipping past her when she’s not looking. Luckily, there’s another way to handle the situation…
Into the Light

The stalker is incredibly dangerous, but surprisingly, she’s extremely sensitive to light – even a little exposure can burn her skin. You can exploit this weakness by drawing her into lit rooms to hurt her. However, she quickly learns this tactic and will destroy any light sources she can reach. Don’t bother with Grace’s lighter; it won’t protect you.
Solemn Lament
Later in the game, you’ll get the Requiem, a really powerful revolver. It can shoot through several zombies at once, taking them out with a single shot. While it only briefly stuns the Stalker, those few seconds can be a lifesaver, giving you time to escape.
Taking (and Leaving) Items for the Other
A clever feature in Resident Evil Requiem involves its two main characters while exploring the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center. Because Grace and Leon both investigate the same areas, one can leave useful items for the other to find. Once enemies are defeated while playing as one character, they stay down when you switch to the other – though this only applies to standard zombies. This mechanic works with items only; you can’t rely on one character solving puzzles for the other. The best approach is to play stealthily as Grace, and then unleash Leon’s powerful weapons on the zombie hordes when you control him.
Exploration is Mandatory
If you’re familiar with the Resident Evil series, you’ll quickly realize that exploring your surroundings is crucial in this game, just like in previous installments. A key part of the gameplay involves carefully learning the layout of areas to find puzzle solutions and necessary items. When you get stuck, it’s always a good idea to explore everywhere, even off the main path.
Mapping High and Low

As a big fan, I’ve learned it’s super important to check your map constantly, no matter if you’re playing as Leon or Grace! It’s not just for getting around; it actually shows you helpful stuff like where you left items or those locked doors you couldn’t open yet. Seriously, it saves so much backtracking later – you’ll always know where to go!
Stacking Lockpicks
If you’re not sure what else Grace should carry besides ammo and health items, focus on collecting lockpicks. Grace has less inventory space than Leon, meaning you’ll need to find and craft items to make up for it. Lockpicks are valuable because locked drawers often hold useful resources and extra ammo, so always grab as many as you can when playing as Grace.
Hemolytic Injectors Are Essential
Grace can craft the Hemolytic Injector using the blood of defeated enemies. It’s not just extra firepower – it instantly kills infected and stops them from turning into the more dangerous Blister Heads. This makes it a key tool for players who prefer a stealthy approach, like Grace.
Craft Smart
No matter who you’re playing as, crafting is essential. Leon has a lot of firepower, so you can never have too much ammo. Even if you prefer a stealthier approach with Grace and Hemolytic Injectors, you’ll still need resources. With so many crafting options, particularly for healing, take advantage of them whenever you can.
Collect Intel Files
If you want to fully understand the story of Requiem – and there’s a lot to uncover – be sure to find the collectible files. Each character has their own set, which will reveal more about the game’s world and the overall plot. You might even recognize some hidden references along the way.
Credits and Unlocking Leon’s Upgrades

As you play, Leon will earn Credits by completing challenges and defeating enemies. These Credits are used to upgrade your weapons, making them more powerful. While you can upgrade weapons, it’s generally a good idea to buy armor first to help Leon withstand more damage. Ultimately, the best approach depends on your playstyle and how well you can dodge, but increasing survivability is usually a smart move.
Customizing Camera Settings
Unlike other games in the series, Requiem lets you play in both first-person and third-person, no matter which character you’re controlling – Grace or Leon. You can switch between these views anytime through the Camera settings in the Options menu. Plus, you can customize each view with options like camera wobble, inversion, and sensitivity. If the camera feels awkward, experiment with these settings to find what works best for you.
Unlockables
Like most Resident Evil games, you’ll earn points by completing objectives, which you can then spend in a shop for bonus content. While new character models are available, players will likely be most excited about the extra weapons – some of which have unlimited ammo – and useful items. Getting these rewards isn’t easy, though; you’ll need to complete specific challenges and carefully plan your routes, especially when playing as Leon and Grace in the Chronic Care Center, to really maximize your efficiency.
