Next year, the game Resident Evil Requiem will become available on PS5. When it launches, players will have the freedom to switch between first-person and third-person camera perspectives at their convenience.
In other words, you have the option to revert to a third-person perspective as seen in earlier games from Capcom’s series, or go for the first-person viewpoint that has been favored by more contemporary titles.
Hey there, gaming enthusiasts! You know, I’ve got to give a shout out to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. It was this game that brought a whole new perspective to the series, switching it to first-person view. Let me tell you, nothing quite compares to being right there in the thick of things, feeling every jolt of fear and tension as if I were really there in that creepy mansion.
According to director Koshi Nakanishi (during an interview with GamesRadar), he believes the game might have been excessively frightening, causing some players to abandon their playthroughs.
Reflecting on Resident Evil 7’s innovative first-person perspective, I aimed to enhance immersion and intensify the fear factor, a strategy that generally received acclaim as an exceptionally terrifying game. However, some viewers and players found it excessively frightening, with many either struggling to complete it or choosing not to play at all due to its intense horror elements.
Reflecting on this experience, I wish everyone playing this game could find enjoyment in it. If you’re finding the first-person perspective too intense, switching to third person might help ease the horror a bit by offering a more detached view of the character as your personal representative within the game world.
So, we basically have RE7 to thank for the inclusion of a third-person camera in Requiem.
Initially, Resident Evil Village was designed to be played from a first-person perspective. However, following an update released after the game’s launch, players now have the option to switch to a third-person view as well.
During our practical exploration of Requiem, we discuss the distinctions between the two viewpoints and how they influence the overall atmosphere in this survival horror adventure.
