Capcom has confirmed that the new survival horror game, *Resident Evil Requiem*, will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. A recent video from Shacknews shows what the game looks like when played in handheld mode on the console, demonstrating a demo from Tokyo Game Show 2025.
Although we can’t directly see what’s happening inside the Switch 2 while playing, the camera footage reveals details about how the game looks and runs. It’s clear the demo isn’t running at a smooth 60 frames per second in handheld mode; it appears to be limited to 30 or 40 FPS. The game also uses a special version of DLSS technology, created by Nvidia and Nintendo specifically for the Switch 2.
I was really impressed with how smoothly the game ran, but honestly, I didn’t get to see a ton of fast-paced action in this footage of *Resident Evil Requiem*. What *did* stand out was the incredible lighting – seriously, the deep shadows and how realistic the lighter looked as a light source were amazing! So, Capcom just confirmed that *Resident Evil Requiem* is coming to the Switch 2! They dropped a trailer earlier this month, and honestly, it showed off some seriously creepy new enemies we’re going to have to fight. I’m already getting hyped for this survival horror game!
Last August, the director, Koshi Nakanishi, explained the decision to add a third-person camera option. He mentioned that some players found the first-person view in *Resident Evil 7* and *Village* quite frightening. The third-person option allows those players to have a wider view of their environment.
Nakanishi explained that the first-person perspective in *Resident Evil 7* was intentionally designed to create a more immersive and frightening experience. While most people agreed it was incredibly scary, he suggested it might have been *too* frightening for some players.
Some players found the game too intense to complete, or even begin. I’ve thought about that a lot, and I want everyone to be able to enjoy the experience. If you started in first-person and it’s overwhelming, switching to third-person can help. It creates a bit of distance from the horror, letting you experience it through the character as if they’re representing you, which can make it more manageable.
The new game, *Resident Evil Requiem*, will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 starting February 27, 2026. It’s a return to the iconic Raccoon City, and the main character is the daughter of a character you could play in the *Resident Evil Outbreak* co-op game.
