With the ending of Resident Evil Requiem, it seems likely we’ll see more stories featuring characters like Leon, Grace, and Chris – the ones fans have enjoyed for years. While the new game mode added to Requiem was a nice bonus, we’re already wondering what Capcom has planned for the future of the series.
We might learn more in an interview with Automaton-Media. The game’s producer, Masato Kumazawa, has suggested the next location could be a popular one seen in other recent games.
It’s safe to say many Japanese fans of Resident Evil have wished for a game set in Japan, and we on the development team have thought about it too. Given that most of us are based in Japan, it’s something we’ve all likely considered. While a Japanese setting hasn’t happened yet, it’s definitely a possibility for the future.
Because many developers at Capcom are already familiar with the setting, it’s likely to become a new location for the Resident Evil team, giving them a distinct advantage. Based on the look of Requiem, this could offer a fresh and unique portrayal of the country in a modern game.
We’re optimistic that Capcom might bring back the largely defunct Umbrella Japan Co., Ltd., which disappeared after the destruction of Raccoon City. It’s even possible someone has been secretly using their facilities all along. Only time will tell. For now, it looks like the development team is revisiting Resident Evil – Code: Veronica with a remake expected in 2027. You can find more information here.
