Since its release last week, Resident Evil Requiem has sold over five million copies. Of those, almost 200,000 were physical copies purchased in Japan, according to Capcom.
According to recent sales figures from Famitsu, tracking purchases between February 23rd and March 1st, 2026, the PS5 version of the game sold 155,373 copies, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version sold 38,793. This marks the strongest first week of sales for a Resident Evil game in Japan since the Resident Evil 2 remake launched in 2019.
While the game has performed well, its initial sales are significantly lower than those of previous Resident Evil titles. Resident Evil 5 sold an estimated 391,000 copies in Japan during its first week, and Resident Evil 6 sold even more, with around 676,000 units.
Here’s a look at how Resident Evil Requiem’s first week of sales in Japan stacks up against other recent games in the series, based on physical copies sold.
- Resident Evil 6 — 676,000 copies sold
- Resident Evil 5 — 391,000 copies sold
- Resident Evil 2 — 252,848 copies sold
