There have been many whispers surrounding the game previously referred to as Resident Evil 9, later known as Resident Evil Requiem. Among the speculations, one of the most captivating was that it initially incorporated online and open-world aspects before undergoing a significant overhaul in 2021, resulting in its current form.
Despite sounding unusual, the team at Capcom has verified that this scenario indeed holds true. In a lengthy message from the creators, director Koshi Nakanishi explained, “There may have been whispers about such tales. Ideas like a online version of Resident Evil or an open-world adaptation, which we delved into during our experimental phase.
Initially, we came up with intriguing ideas, but in hindsight, they didn’t resonate with fans as something they desired to experience or play. Consequently, we returned to the design phase and crafted what eventually became Resident Evil Requiem.
Masachika Kawata, the producer, emphasized earlier in the video that Requiem is designed as a single-player game to be played offline. This time, Grace Ashcroft takes on the role of the protagonist, and despite initial plans to feature Leon, the team decided against it due to their focus on pure horror making him an inappropriate fit. However, there are rumors suggesting that he might be playable, so treat this information with caution.
On February 27th, 2026, the game titled “Resident Evil Requiem” is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. Attendees of Gamescom, held from August 20th to 24th, will have the opportunity to play it beforehand. In the meantime, keep an eye out for further updates!
