Resident Evil Requiem’s Grace and Leon Sections Are “Almost Equally Split,” Says Director

Leon S. Kennedy is officially joining the cast of Resident Evil Requiem, and his story will be closely linked to Grace Ashcroft’s – building on his efforts to rescue her. According to director Akifumi Nakanishi, players will control Leon and Grace for roughly the same amount of time throughout the game.

The game features roughly equal playtime with both Grace and Leon. The structure is reminiscent of Resident Evil: Revelations, creating a feeling similar to playing two separate games, each with its own unique atmosphere and sense of suspense.

We initially thought the game might be too challenging for players, but now we realize the difficulty actually creates a distinctive and engaging pace – it’s a surprisingly refreshing change, like the shock of a cold plunge after relaxing in a sauna (laughs).

As a fan, I’ve noticed Leon is definitely the action hero of the duo, giving us a breather after the really tense, scary stuff with Grace. But the creator, Nakanishi, let slip that Leon is the kind of person who would instantly jump in front of danger to protect someone else. It honestly makes me wonder if that hints at what’s going to happen to him… it’s a little foreshadowing that’s got me worried!

I’m really excited for this next battle because I think it’s going to be Leon’s toughest challenge yet, and that’s going to be amazing to watch. He’s always willing to put himself on the line for others, but he doesn’t brag about it – he’s genuinely selfless. He’s got a lot going on inside, and I can’t wait to see more of that. Plus, as an older character, he delivers this fantastic dry humor and subtle sarcasm that’s just perfect, and I’m really looking forward to that!

Honestly, if you think Leon still looks great in the new game, that’s not an accident! The developers at Capcom specifically aimed for him to be handsome and have a really cool personality. They definitely wanted him to be a standout character!

He’s a character with a lot of burdens, but we worked hard to make him a charming and attractive older man. We’re glad to see that’s come across in the trailer reactions, which have been really positive (laughs).

The new game, Resident Evil Requiem, will be released on February 27, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Capcom plans to reveal more details about the game early next year. We might even get a look at how Leon Kennedy will play, with rumors suggesting larger levels and the ability to travel by vehicle.
