Following the announcement of its release date, more gameplay footage has been revealed for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. This prequel, priced at $49.99 and launching in August, tells the story of a younger, more impulsive Sophia from A Plague Tale: Requiem.
The story begins with a girl and her friend exploring the island of the Minotaur, guided by a magical notebook. Soon, they find themselves battling a dangerous gang, leading to fast-paced combat where timing and skillful dodging are key. Players can build up an enemy’s weakness by linking attacks together, and finish them off with powerful special moves when they’re vulnerable.
Players can also throw knives or use grappling hooks to retrieve them, and there’s even a possibility of grabbing weapons dropped by enemies to throw as well. Elsewhere, Sophia uses symbols from her notebook to light up a room and progress, but her flashbacks are the most intriguing part of the experience.
Resonance doesn’t just play out across one era – it also sees you controlling Theseus, the hero who went on to slay the Minotaur. Of course, this particular sequence is more of a coliseum battle than anything else. But when returning to Sophia’s perspective, it’s for a stealth sequence where something monstrous is breathing in from its surroundings.
As usual, Asobo Studio’s presentation is on point, especially the music. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches on August 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, so it won’t be long before we can go hands-on with it.
