Retail Investors Panic Sell Bitcoin as Prices Drop Below $67,000

Retail investors drive widespread bitcoin selling as prices fallMarkets

What to know:

 • Retail wallets under 10 BTC are leading the sell-off, with accumulation scores near zero indicating aggressive distribution.
 • Larger holders, especially whales, are mostly sidelined, showing limited selling and little sign of renewed accumulation

Bitcoin’s price dropping below $67,000 is coinciding with increased selling, particularly from smaller investors, according to Glassnode’s analysis of on-chain data. Their Accumulation Trend Score shows a widespread trend of these investors liquidating their holdings.

The 30-day Accumulation Trend Score shows whether groups of cryptocurrency wallets are buying (accumulating) or selling (distributing) coins on the blockchain. It considers both how much each group holds and how their holdings have changed over the last 30 days. A score near 1 suggests strong buying, especially from larger investors, while a score near 0 indicates selling or little to no buying activity.

Right now, most of the selling is coming from smaller Bitcoin holders – those with less than 10 BTC. Wallets holding under 1 BTC show a score of 0.11, and those with 1 to 10 BTC are even lower at 0.05, suggesting they are actively selling their coins.

As we look at larger Bitcoin holders, the selling pressure eases. Those with 1,000 to 10,000 BTC are currently neutral, showing no clear sign of buying or selling, and are likely waiting to see how prices change. The biggest group of holders, with over 10,000 BTC, are selling off a small amount, but not nearly as much as they were when Bitcoin was trading above $90,000. Holders of 100 to 1,000 BTC are also noticeably selling.

Bitcoin hasn’t seen much price increase since briefly falling to around $60,000 in early February. It looks like smaller, individual investors are selling, while bigger investors are holding back and not yet buying.
