Returnal’s Influence Expands with PS5 Roguelite Shooter ARMATUS

Okay, so Returnal didn’t exactly fly off the shelves as the biggest PS5 exclusive ever, but it clearly inspired a lot of other games. The newest one looks like it’s trying to capture that same magic – it’s called ARMATUS, and it’s a roguelite shooter coming out in 2026. I’m definitely keeping an eye on it!

Okay, so this game takes place in what’s supposed to be Paris, but it’s totally overrun by demons – honestly, it’s more like a twisted version of France! The developers are really going wild with the weapons and powers you get, though. It’s not exactly realistic, but it’s super cool – they’re blending historical stuff with some seriously fantastical elements.

Here’s what the blurb says:

Knowledge gives you an edge, and defeat isn’t final. In each attempt, use your scythe and a gun of your choice to battle fierce demons determined to destroy you. Improve your fighting skills with powerful abilities and upgrades. When you fall, you’ll come back to fight again. Keep fighting, dying, and learning with each run, pushing further and mastering your weapons to progress.

The trailer shows promising combat, but we’ll have to play the game ourselves to see if the developers, Counterplay Games, can create a similar level of polished, fluid gameplay as Housemarque.
