Fans of Harry Potter have reason to be excited! One returning actor has shared that the upcoming HBO Max series will adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling’s books for television. The show is planned to run for ten seasons, giving filmmakers the time to fully explore the story. This is great news for book lovers, as the original movies had to cut many details and characters due to their limited runtime. The new series promises a more complete adaptation, bringing those beloved moments and characters to life that didn’t make it into the films.
Warwick Davis, who played Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter films, shared exciting news about the upcoming HBO Max series. He’s one of the few original cast members returning, and says the new show will retell the beloved stories with greater depth and detail while remaining very true to the books.
Warwick Davis recently spoke with Times Radio about the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. He shared that he’s currently involved in the project, and while he couldn’t reveal much, he described it as a retelling of the beloved stories with greater depth and detail. He also emphasized that the series will stay very true to the original books.

He acknowledged they’re revisiting the same core story, but with a lot more detail from the books that wasn’t included in the films. He emphasized that while the story is familiar, returning to the original studio, Leavesden, where they filmed the movies, feels strange. “We’re essentially telling the same story, so there are moments that feel similar as we act them out,” Davis explained, “but being back at Leavesden and doing it all again is a unique experience.”
Harry Potter HBO Max Series Needs to Be Faithful to the Books

Warwick Davis believes the upcoming HBO Max Harry Potter series should prioritize staying true to the books. Since the movies already exist, the series shouldn’t simply recast them. Instead, it should focus on adapting the full stories from the books for television, even if that means revisiting familiar events. The series has a great opportunity to expand on those stories and add more depth.
The movies left out a lot of interesting details from the books. For example, the books strongly suggested that Neville Longbottom could have been the hero instead of Harry Potter, creating a mystery for readers. While the films touched on this idea, it was much more prominent in the books, where fans actively debated it between releases. There’s potential for the streaming series to explore this storyline more fully.
As a huge movie fan, I’ve always been frustrated with how Ginny Weasley was portrayed on screen. In the books, she’s this incredibly strong and capable character, really Harry’s equal. While the movies did eventually pair them up, they totally missed showing why their relationship worked – her power and importance were just glossed over. Honestly, I’m hoping the new HBO Max series will finally give Ginny the depth and development she deserves. She’s so much more than just Harry’s girlfriend!
The upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO Max has a great opportunity to include details the movies didn’t have time for. This includes storylines like Hermione’s work with elf welfare, the history of James, Sirius, Lupin, and Peter (the Marauders), and fan-favorite characters such as Peeves and Kreacher.
