Good news for Star Wars fans! Two new movies, The Mandalorian & Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter, are planned for release in the next few years. Lucasfilm is also working on several other projects, including a film called Star Wars: New Jedi Order, which will follow Rey as she trains a new generation of Jedi. Announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe in 2023 with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directing, New Jedi Order has faced some development challenges with changes in writers, and a release date hasn’t been set yet. However, star Daisy Ridley remains hopeful about the project.
In an interview with IGN, Daisy Ridley talked about the possibility of continuing the Star Wars story with a new project, and also mentioned the previously cancelled ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo.’ She revealed she’s seen scripts for ‘New Jedi Order’ as far back as five years ago, and is now hopeful it might actually happen. Ridley acknowledged that making a film is incredibly difficult, but she’s confident that the talented team working on ‘New Jedi Order’ will deliver something worthwhile, making the wait worthwhile.
New Jedi Order Is Important for Star Wars’ Movie Future

Rey is considered a key figure for the future of Star Wars, and there’s talk that the upcoming film, New Jedi Order, could launch a whole series of movies exploring that era. While Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed any of this, it highlights how important this film could be for the franchise’s direction. Even as a single movie, New Jedi Order is significant because it continues Rey’s story after the somewhat disappointing end of the Skywalker Saga in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It could be an opportunity to build on what came before and give Rey a more fulfilling future.
Considering everything, Lucasfilm needs to ensure everything is just right before starting production on New Jedi Order. The delay has been disappointing for fans, but it’s better to take the time needed to get it right rather than rush the film to meet a deadline. Despite the mixed reactions to the last Star Wars trilogy, those films were still huge successes, and Rey is a beloved character. This means New Jedi Order has the potential to be truly exceptional.
Ridley has spoken about the New Jedi Order film before, and it’s good to see her continuing to update fans on its progress – it shows the movie is still being actively developed. Her reassurance that the wait will be worthwhile is also welcome news. Everyone working on New Jedi Order understands the film is taking longer than expected, and the creative team is dedicated to making it live up to fans’ hopes. Lucasfilm’s patience with the project demonstrates their commitment to it. The studio is giving New Jedi Order the time and focus it needs, which is exactly what the Star Wars franchise needs after a few challenging years.
We can expect to learn more details about the New Jedi Order in the future. If Lucasfilm continues releasing one Star Wars movie each year, the film featuring Rey likely won’t be released until 2028, giving them time to finalize the script. We might see some announcements or teasers at events like D23 Expo in 2026 or Star Wars Celebration in 2027 to generate excitement for Daisy Ridley’s return.
