RHOP’s Wendy Osefo Makes Career Move After Arrest for Fraud

Wendy Osefo is taking some time off from teaching.

A representative for the star of *The Real Housewives of Potomac* has responded to reports that she was removed from her position as Distinguished Visiting Professor at Wesleyan University. This came after she and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were arrested on October 9th and charged with multiple felonies related to fraud.

Recent reports that Dr. Wendy Osefo was fired from Wesleyan University are incorrect. According to her representative, Dr. Osefo actually resigned from her position before the university made any public statements about her departure.

Actually, the reason the 41-year-old left her job at the Connecticut college wasn’t related to her legal issues.

Okay, so I’m absolutely devastated, but apparently Dr. Osefo *chose* to leave her position. That’s what they’re saying, anyway! It wasn’t anything the media found out – she told the university herself, *before* any of those stories even came out. It’s just… hard to believe, honestly. She went to them directly with this decision, all on her own. I just… I don’t understand.

Wendy and Eddie, parents of Karter, 11, Kruz, 9, and Kamrynn, 5, were arrested on October 9th after a Maryland grand jury charged them with 16 counts of fraud. Wendy, a former professor, faces seven charges, while her husband faces nine.

According to TopMob News, each individual faces eight misdemeanor charges of fraud conspiracy and one charge of lying to the police.

According to a statement from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on October 10th, the Osefos are facing charges connected to a false report they made in April 2024. They allegedly claimed their home had been burglarized and items stolen, but authorities believe this was fraudulent.

Okay, so after a bit of a scare, Wendy and Eddie were released on bond – $50,000, to be exact – and got home early October 10th. As their representative, I can share that we’re addressing what happened with the legal situation, and will be sharing more information as it becomes available.

Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward, are home safe with their family and doing well, according to a statement released by Wendy’s representative on October 10th. They appreciate all the support and concern they’ve received from friends, fans, and coworkers.

The Osefo family stated they are eager to present their case in court and are currently prioritizing their family and the ongoing legal proceedings.

The pair are due back in court in November, online records show.

You can watch *The Real Housewives of Potomac* on Sundays at 8 p.m. on Bravo. Below, you’ll find a complete history of the legal issues involving Wendy and Eddie.

You can watch *The Real Housewives of Potomac* on Bravo every Sunday at 8 p.m. But first, here’s a complete look at the legal issues Wendy and Eddie Osefo have been facing.

Wendy Osefo, 41, and her husband, Eddie Osefo, 41, were arrested at their Maryland home on October 9th following charges of fraud.

Wendy and Eddie are accused of lying to authorities about information worth over $300. Wendy faces seven felony charges, and Eddie faces nine. They are also both charged with eight misdemeanor counts of conspiring to lie, and Eddie is additionally charged with one misdemeanor count of directly lying to a police officer.

Just an update on that case we were discussing – I’m hearing the individuals involved were released on $50,000 bond each on October 10th. From what I understand from State’s Attorney Haven Shoemaker, the next court date is currently set for November 7th, though that’s still subject to change.

Wendy and Eddie haven’t formally pleaded guilty or not guilty, but they did confirm they understand the accusations against them after being released from jail.

Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward, are home safe with their family and doing well, according to a statement released on October 10th by Wendy’s representative. They appreciate everyone’s support and concern. The Osefos, along with their lawyers, are prepared to address the situation in court and ask for privacy while they focus on their family and the legal proceedings.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m often dealing with stories about home security, and this one is particularly troubling. Apparently, the Osefos reported a $450,000 theft from their home while they were enjoying a vacation in Jamaica between April 2nd and 7th. Authorities are now claiming this report was false, meaning they allegedly misrepresented the situation to both the police and their insurance company.

During a press conference on October 10th, Carroll County Sheriff James DeWees stated that detectives determined Wendy and Eddie made up the burglary and falsely reported it to their insurance company to try and collect money.

When deputies first arrived at the couple’s home, something felt off, according to DeWees. There were no signs of a break-in and no evidence anyone had forced their way inside. Despite this, they continued to investigate as if a burglary had occurred. However, weeks later, detectives noticed Wendy had posted pictures online wearing jewelry that appeared to be the same items she’d reported stolen—specifically, her diamond anniversary ring.

The couple showed receipts for the items they claimed were stolen. However, the sheriff said they’d already returned over $20,000 worth of those same items to the stores where they bought them.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen a lot, and this is pretty shocking. The investigation revealed emails between Wendy and Eddie that suggest they were intentionally inflating the value of items. One message, in particular, stood out – Wendy asked Eddie if they could add more expensive items to their inventory list specifically to reach a $423,000 total, which appears to be their insurance policy limit. It’s a clear indication they were trying to maximize a fraudulent claim.

According to DeWees, the search of the Osefos’ home on the day of their arrest revealed an additional 15 stolen items.

Andy Cohen knows the drill when members of the Real Housewives family have legal issues.

The executive producer of the show said on the October 13th episode of Andy Cohen Live that he didn’t have much to say about the recent charges against Wendy and Eddie, but he sympathized with their family.

Andy expressed his sadness, saying he’s a big fan of Wendy and admires her as both a Housewife and a positive influence. He appreciates her focus on education and strong family principles, and hopes any recent issues are just a misunderstanding and will resolve themselves. He’s keeping Wendy and her family in his thoughts.

During a performance at Mr. Henry’s in Washington D.C. on October 10th, Real Housewives star Ashley Darby seemed to playfully tease Wendy.

The singer joked to the audience, as seen in a fan-recorded video, “We’re creating music, not breaking the law! Just to be clear, that’s all we’re up to here – making melodies.”

According to Page Six, she stated, “This isn’t surprising to us, but it might be to you all. Zen Wen is in jail.” (She first presented her Zen Wen persona in 2021.)
