In about a month, we’ll finally get to witness the Netflix adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club, and the eager fans can hardly wait to see how Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie have breathed life into these cherished characters.
There’s been a bit of discussion about the discrepancy between one member of the quartet and their portrayed personality from the text.
To put it simply, certain spectators have pointed out that Brosnan bears little resemblance to the character Ron, who was typically imagined as a burly, tattooed ex-union member, with Ray Winstone frequently suggested for this role instead.
Currently, the book’s writer, Richard Osman, who has played a significant role in the adaptation as well, has justified the choice of casting the previous James Bond actor. Speaking with Empire, he explained that it’s important to choose something uncommon, distinctive, and intriguing.
According to Osman, the crucial point is that Pierce Brosnan is the actor Ron would prefer to see portray him, as he plays the role of Ron.
In the upcoming story, there’s a conversation between Ron and Ibrahim about who they think is the superior James Bond character. Ron is a fan of Pierce Brosnan, while Ibrahim prefers Timothy Dalton. That’s what makes it fun for me.
In reply to Osman’s argument, Brosnan remarked with enthusiasm: “Absolutely terrific! I’m all for it. Timothy Dalton did an excellent job as Bond, and so did Brosnan himself!
While discussing his collaboration with Brosnan, Kingsley noted, “My professional bond with Pierce is among the finest I’ve ever experienced in my career. We had a special trust that allowed us to improvise like Laurel and Hardy on a whim, as we both were attuned to each other’s working pace.
Additionally gracing the movie’s remarkable ensemble are Naomi Ackie, Sir Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Geoff Bell, Richard E Grant, Tom Ellis, and others.

Chris Columbus, the director, had praised the cast earlier to Collider, saying: “Thanks to Richard Osman’s exceptional writing, I’ve been fortunate enough to assemble one of the most talented acting groups I’ve collaborated with since the Harry Potter series.
Seeing this movie come to life was like a cherished dream. I sincerely hope that I’ll have the chance to create a follow-up, and if fortune favors me, possibly even more sequels.
