The popular animated show Rick and Morty will be removed from Netflix in many countries starting in December. Originally created as a playful take on Back to the Future, the series centers around Rick, a brilliant but cynical scientist, and his less-motivated grandson, Morty. Together, they travel through different dimensions using portals. The show also explores the lives of the rest of the Smith family – Rick’s daughter Beth, her husband Jerry, and Morty’s sister Summer – with episodes often focusing on their individual stories.
As a huge animation fan, I’ve been following Rick and Morty since the beginning. It started as a little show on Adult Swim, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, but quickly blew up! Seriously, it’s become a massive hit for the network. The amazing part? They’ve already been renewed for twelve seasons – twelve! Season 8 actually just started airing earlier this year. And it’s not just popular with viewers, critics love it too; every season has a ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty rare.
Fans of the popular animated series Rick and Morty will be disappointed to learn it’s leaving Netflix in several countries. According to What’s on Netflix, the UK version of the streaming service will no longer have the rights to the show, which first became available in October 2016. All seven current seasons will be removed on December 31st. Viewers in Greece, India, Japan, Italy, and other regions will lose access even earlier, on December 30th.
Where is ‘Rick and Morty’ streaming?

Adult Swim
Viewers in the United States might be surprised to see Rick and Morty on Netflix, since it’s never been available to stream there. In the US, the show has always been on Hulu, which has the rights to it. Currently, all eight seasons are available on Hulu, and it will continue to be the place to watch Rick and Morty for the near future. When Disney+ and Hulu eventually combine in 2026, the show’s branding might change, but it will likely still be available on the combined platform.
Netflix will no longer offer Rick and Morty in some countries, including the UK. However, the show will still be available on Netflix in places like France, Brazil, Switzerland, and Argentina. It’s still unclear if Rick and Morty will ever be streamed on Netflix in the United States. While that seemed unlikely before, streaming services are now more willing to share content – even companies like HBO are letting some of their shows appear on other platforms. Fans in the affected regions have only a few weeks left to watch the animated series on Netflix before it’s removed, and it’s not certain if it will return.
