What started as a funny sci-fi spoof, Rick and Morty, has become a huge hit for Adult Swim and a major player in animation today. While the main show continues to delve into the endless possibilities of the multiverse, the creators are also trying new ways to tell stories and keep fans interested. We’ve already seen this with the short digital series Vindicators 2 and the anime version of Rick and Morty, both of which offered a unique take on the show’s quirky style. Now, another spinoff is on the way called President Curtis, featuring Keith David as the unusual president who often clashes with Rick Sanchez (voiced by Ian Cardoni).
David recently told ScreenRant that his new series, featuring his character President Curtis, is expected to premiere on Adult Swim later this year. This is the first time a specific timeframe has been given for the show. While the series will focus on President Curtis as the main character, David assured fans that the president will retain his familiar personality – including his confidence and unpredictable behavior – as he embarks on his own weekly adventures.
Can President Curtis Hold a Series on His Own?

Despite offering fresh takes on the Rick and Morty universe, neither Vindicators 2 nor Rick and Morty: The Anime were renewed for a second season. This was mainly because they didn’t attract as many viewers as the original show. The Vindicators shorts were too short to fully develop, and the anime’s drastically different style proved divisive among fans. Both spinoffs focused on specific interests, which limited their overall appeal.
Unlike past spin-offs, the new series President Curtis benefits from focusing on a well-known character who’s been central to some of the best Rick and Morty episodes. He’s proven he can handle important storylines, as seen in episodes like “Rick & Morty’s Thanksploitation Spectacular” and the dramatic season 3 finale.
The show often suggests the President has access to technology and secret resources just as advanced as Rick Sanchez’s inventions. This creates endless possibilities for exciting, self-contained adventures involving strange science and complicated interdimensional negotiations. Furthermore, the actor David perfectly portrays President Curtis as someone who is both arrogant and deeply insecure. Because of this strong characterization and clear role in the story, President Curtis seems more likely to become a long-running success on Adult Swim than previous attempts.
President Curtis is scheduled to be released later in 2026.
