Netflix unveiled an upcoming comedic animation show from the mind of Ricky Gervais, the genius behind After Life, which they’re calling Alley Cats.
I’m thrilled to be part of the exciting new six-episode series! Alongside me, television favorites like Gervais will return, accompanied by an extraordinary ensemble cast including Kerry Godliman, David Earl, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan, Tony Way, Andrew Brooke, and Jo Hartley. We can’t wait to bring you another captivating season of After Life!
Under the joint direction of Gervais and Elliot Dear, the series titled “Alley Cats” will delve into the experiences of a band of stray British felines as they search for camaraderie, pondering over their daily struggles in life. As stated in the official summary.
In simpler terms, Gervais described his character as a rather overweight, lazy, arrogant, and opinionated being with sharp teeth, who believes himself to be more intelligent and courageous than he actually is. Quite an exaggeration, one might say.

Previously, the comedian-actor has shared insights on creating the animated series set to air in 2023. During an interactive Q&A online, he disclosed his preference for animation over live-action, stating that “filming is a grueling endeavor”.
He mentioned that we initiated the project, which being an animation, will likely require some time to complete. He expects it to wrap up by next year.
He mentioned that he decided to do animation because he felt that with age, filming was becoming challenging. He believed that animation would be less strenuous, but realized later that it wasn’t as easy as he thought and admitted that he had been mistaken.
