Sam Mendes is working on what could be the most extensive musical biopic project ever – titled “The Beatles: A Four-Part Cinematic Journey“. However, one original Beatle is making sure that the production remains authentic to the band’s history. First announced in February 2024, Mendes’ four-part project aims to delve into the lives of the Fab Four, with each film telling a story from the perspective of a different band member.
In May of this year, Barry Keoghan, who will play Ringo Starr from The Beatles, shared that the cast had undergone a rigorous 17-week band training program in preparation for the upcoming films. Keoghan will be joined by Paul Mescal (as Paul McCartney), Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison).
In a conversation with The New York Times, the real-life Starr disclosed that he had earlier discussed the scripts for the four films with Mendes. He emphasized that despite Mendes having an outstanding screenwriter, the depicted scenes between him and his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett, were not accurate as they didn’t occur in reality as portrayed. Here are his thoughts:
[Starr’s comments]
He possessed a highly skilled author, renowned for his work, who penned exceptionally well, but the content was unrelated to Maureen and me. It didn’t reflect our reality. In simpler terms, ‘What he wrote had nothing in common with us or our relationship. We wouldn’t behave like that.’
Apart from sharing his notes, Starr added that he’s delighted with the improved scripts. However, he remains uncertain about how Mendes intends to manage filming four movies concurrently. Nevertheless, the iconic Beatle advised Mendes to keep up the good work and sent him peace and love.

Ringo Is Not Alone In Questioning The Size Of Sam Mendes’ Plans
Considering that The Beatles’ lives have sparked numerous films, documentaries, and literature throughout the years, Mendes’ movies undoubtedly bring something fresh to viewers. With his bold intention to create four films simultaneously, it’s understandable that Starr might question if this undertaking is too grand for him to manage effectively.
In April 2028, all four Beatles movies are set to hit theaters, and director Mendes is crafting an unprecedented cinematic event, referred to as the world’s first “binge-worthy theatrical experience.” This venture carries the risk befitting the fame of the most renowned musical group in history, but its ambitious scale could challenge even the most seasoned filmmakers.
Despite this, Mendes seems dedicated to making his films as historically accurate about The Beatles as he can, and having an original band member offer input on his scripts will help create a more authentic final product.
Our Take On Mendes Making Four Beatles Movies At Once
The Skyfall Director’s Gamble Is As Big As The Band Itself
In this era where streaming services have become the go-to for many movie lovers, I find myself eagerly anticipating Mendes’ bold strategy to screen and release four interconnected films simultaneously. This unique approach might just lure us back into the allure of cinemas. Yet, with such a massive wager comes a formidable array of potential pitfalls.
As a follower, I’m not just grappling with the potential financial repercussions of four high-profile films flopping at the box office, but I’m also eager to infuse my unique perspective into pop culture icons whose influence still resonates deeply with fans over half a century after The Beatles officially disbanded.
Just as Starr, countless Beatles enthusiasts are silently wishing for Mendes and his team, hoping that The Beatles’ Four-Movie Cinematic Experience triumphs against all apparent challenges.
