The new BBC drama, Riot Women, tells the story of a town transformed by music, focusing on five women who start a punk rock band and spark a local revolution.
Frustrated with the expectations placed on women as they get older, and fueled by a combination of anger and disappointment with their hectic yet ordinary lives, the band members find a new purpose and rediscover who they are – something they haven’t experienced in a long time.
However, not everyone understands or supports their new passion. Family and friends, as well as people in their community, are split – some are confused by it, while others strongly disagree with it, even though it’s become incredibly important to them.
Here’s everything you need to know about where Riot Women was filmed.
Where was Riot Women filmed? All the major locations

Hebden Bridge
Riot Women, like the popular series Happy Valley, is filmed and set in the West Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge.
This location has also been featured in the TV series *Gentleman Jack* and *Last Tango in Halifax*. Wainwright explained her reasons for filming there again, saying:
As a film lover, I think this story is universal – it could really happen anywhere. But personally, I love grounding it in the way people actually speak where I’m from, because it just naturally adds a lot of humor. And honestly, the scenery around Hebden Bridge is stunning – you just can’t top it for visuals.
Like Happy Valley before it, ‘Riot Women’ really showcases Hebden Bridge, with a lot of filming taking place in and around the town. It looks fantastic on screen, and that strong sense of location is key to making the show feel real and believable.
The setting creates a unique feeling, largely because it’s so strongly connected to a specific place.
Duke of Wellington Pub
The Duke of Wellington pub is a central location in the series. It’s where Jess lives and where the band often practices, and many important events take place there.
The pub everyone’s talking about is actually called The Albert, often referred to as “The Famous Albert.” It’s right in the center of Hebden Bridge and easily recognizable thanks to its unique triangular design – it’s become a well-known spot in town.
Calderdale Royal Hospital
Episode five sees several members of the Riot Women requiring emergency medical attention, with a significant portion of the show taking place inside Calderdale Royal Hospital.
Talent Show Hall
The band started their career by performing in a local talent show. Playing an ABBA song together became what united them. This competition was a key early experience for the group.
Filming took place at St Michael’s Church Hall in Mytholmroyd.
You can watch Riot Women on BBC One this Sunday, October 12th, at 9pm. All episodes will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer starting at 6am that same day.
