I’m really excited for the new season of Rivals! They just announced when it’s coming out, and from the trailer, it looks like we can expect a lot of unexpected turns and, well, some steamy scenes. Plus, they’re shaking things up with a new way of releasing episodes – it all looks pretty glamorous!
The popular series based on Jilly Cooper’s novels launched in October 2024 with a full season available for immediate streaming. However, season two will be different – it’s being released in two parts, each with six episodes.
The first part will premiere on Friday, May 15th with three episodes, and the rest of the series will be available on Disney+ in the UK later this year.
We’re getting a good, long season of Rivals – twelve episodes in total! But based on what we know, the first few episodes will likely leave us wanting more.
The new trailer offers a sneak peek at the upcoming season, and despite being short, it’s immediately apparent that Rivals is maintaining the exciting energy that made the first season so popular.
The show begins with Sarah Stratton (played by Emily Atack) and Beattie Johnson (Annabel Scholey) introducing themselves from the set of their new program, Uncensored. “Welcome to the naughtiest show on television,” Sarah announces.
The scene shifts to a helicopter approaching, and we see David Tennant as Lord Tony Baddingham walking with a cane. As fans know, Tennant is returning to the role, and it’s clear his character hasn’t forgotten past events. He playfully references his injury from a previous season finale, saying with a smile: “Sorry I’m late, darling. I’ve had a terrible headache.”

The trailer shows Tony getting friendly with Cameron (Nafessa Williams) and promising a fight, dramatically raising her hand as he addresses his entire company.
Honestly, I’m completely hooked! I’m dying to know if he’s actually forgotten she whacked him, if he’s faking amnesia, or if they’ve somehow made up. Whatever it is, I have a feeling it’s going to be wonderfully messy, and I, for one, am absolutely here for it.
The trailer keeps up the series’ exciting and dramatic tone, featuring champagne celebrations, intimate moments, and a first look at Hayley Atwell as Helen Gordon—Rupert’s former wife and the mother of his children.

Season two focuses on the intense competition for the Central South West TV franchise, as the rivalry between Corinium and Venturer escalates. Tony Baddingham becomes even more cutthroat, using damaging rumors and manipulating people around him to stay in control.
In the flashy, over-the-top world of the 1980s, the private lives of those competing in Rutshire fall apart. Marriages crumble due to everyone’s drive to succeed, and affairs put families at risk. Old secrets come to light, causing major drama. As competition heats up, friendships and relationships are strained, and people get hurt in the fight to win. But at what price does this victory come?
Season 2 will also introduce several new actors, including Rupert Everett as Malise Gordon, Helen’s husband and Rupert’s old show-jumping coach. Joining the cast are Maxim Ays, Holly Cattle, Oliver Dench, Amanda Lawrence, Bobby Lockwood, Eliot Salt, and Jonny Weldon.
The new season wouldn’t be complete without the return of our favorite actors, including David Tennant, Bella Maclean, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, Danny Dyer, Katherine Parkinson, Victoria Smurfit, Claire Rushbrook, Oliver Chris, Lisa McGrillis, Emily Atack, Rufus Jones, Luke Pasqualino, Catriona Chandler, and Annabel Scholey.
