Nick Reiner is facing serious legal charges following an unfathomable tragedy.
On December 16th, authorities announced that Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner’s 32-year-old son has been charged with the first-degree murder of both of his parents. The couple was found dead at their home in Brentwood, California on December 14th.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman has confirmed that the 32-year-old suspect is in custody and receiving a standard medical evaluation, which is routine for anyone arrested on suspicion of murder.
Rob and Michele Reiner, parents of Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, were at Conan O’Brien’s holiday party the night before their deaths. According to sources who spoke with People and the Los Angeles Times, their son, the writer of Being Charlie, was behaving badly at the party and had a loud argument with his father. TopMob News contacted the LAPD and representatives for O’Brien and the Reiner family for comment, but did not receive a response.
The day after Rob and Michele were found dead, Nick was arrested and charged with their murders, the Los Angeles Police Department announced. While initial reports indicated a $4 million bail, police later confirmed he was being held without the possibility of bail.
Since the director of When Harry Met Sally and his wife of 36 years passed away, those who knew them have shared their deep sadness and grief.
Rob Reiner’s daughter, Tracy Reiner, shared a statement with NBC News saying she was stunned and heartbroken by the news. She described her family as ‘the greatest ever.’ Tracy Reiner was the daughter of both Rob Reiner and his late ex-wife, Penny Marshall.
Longtime friend Jane Fonda also expressed her sadness and shared that she had recently been with the couple before they passed away.

The 87-year-old posted on Instagram on December 15th that they had seen the individuals two nights prior, describing them as healthy and happy. They added that they were devastated and shocked by the news.
The actress who played Barbarella described the couple as “wonderful, caring, intelligent, and humorous people who were always generous and looking for ways to improve the world and make it a more compassionate place.”
Around ten years before Rob and Michele sadly passed away, Rob worked with his son, Nick, on the movie Being Charlie. The film was inspired by Nick’s own experiences with addiction.
Rob described the experience as challenging but incredibly rewarding and creatively fulfilling, saying it was the best he’d ever had, in a 2016 interview with Build Series.
Nick concurred, adding, “It was a pretty nice experience for me.”

Long before Rob and Michele Singer Reiner passed away, their son, Nick Reiner, openly discussed his struggles with addiction. He even worked with his father on the 2015 film Being Charlie, which focused on the topic of substance abuse.
Nick explained that he had been to rehab 17 times before turning 30.
In a 2016 interview with People magazine, he shared that he had experienced homelessness in three different states: Maine, New Jersey, and Texas. He described spending nights and weeks living on the streets, and said it was a difficult time.
Two years later, Nick recalled an instance when he “wrecked” his home while high on drugs.
In a 2018 interview on the Dopey podcast, he explained that he spent days high on stimulants—likely cocaine and another drug—and ended up punching things in his guest house. He said he went through a period where he was ‘totally spun out’ and lasted 10 rounds in the guest house.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I was reading everywhere that Rob Reiner – you know, the When Harry Met Sally genius? – had a huge fight with his son, Nick, at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party! Apparently, it was a really heated argument, and People magazine had sources saying it actually happened. Then the L.A. Times confirmed it with family friends! They said people even noticed Nick was acting…off, before it all went down. I’m just completely obsessed with Rob Reiner, and this is just…wow. I can’t even imagine!

On December 14th, around 3:40 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department was called to a home in Brentwood, California, to investigate a death, following a report received the day after a Christmas party.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve sadly learned details of a recent incident. Police responding to a home found two people inside who were later identified as Robert and Michele Reiner. It’s a truly tragic situation, and my heart goes out to everyone affected.
The Robbery Homicide Division’s Homicide Special Section began investigating how the deaths occurred.
According to NBC News, Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton stated that investigators will be speaking with many family members. Rob Reiner and his wife have three children: Nick, Romy, and Jake. Rob also adopted the daughter of his late ex-wife, Penny Marshall, named Tracy Reiner.

Rob and Michele Reiner did not die from illness or old age; they appear to have been stabbed, according to a source with knowledge of the situation who spoke to NBC News.
According to the LAPD, the initial investigation revealed that the Reiners were victims of homicide.

Police determined that Rob and Michele’s son, Nick, caused their deaths. He wasn’t arrested until several hours after their bodies were discovered.
Police announced they arrested Nick Reiner around 9:15 p.m. on December 15th. He has been charged with murder and is being held in jail without the possibility of bail.
TopMob News was not able to find a lawyer on file to speak on Nick Reiner’s behalf.

After Rob’s death, Tracy said she’d seen her father the day before his passing.
She told NBC News she felt lucky to have come from such a wonderful family, and was still in shock about what happened. She struggled to find the words to express how she felt.

Jane Fonda saw Rob and Michele the night before their tragic deaths.
The actress shared on Instagram on December 15th that she had seen them two nights prior, and they seemed happy and well. She added that she is now deeply saddened and shocked.

Michelle Obama shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on December 15th that she and Barack Obama had planned to meet with Rob and Michele on the day they tragically passed away.
