Robert Downey Jr. Mispronouncing Channing Tatum Is New Adele Dazeem

Robert Downey Jr.may have to avenge his flub.

Despite presenting the awards for Best Original and Best Adapted Screenplays alongside Chris Evans at the 2026 Oscars – a show hosted by Conan O’Brien at the Dolby Theater on March 15th – Robert Downey Jr. had a memorable gaffe that put him in the same category as John Travolta’s infamous “Adele Dazeem” moment.

While telling a story about forgetting a gift for his and Chris’s friend, Robert confidently mispronounced the name of Channing Tatum.

Robert announced from the stage, “I did get you a gift! It’s the official thong from Magic Mike – the ‘Tanning Chatum.’ It’s covered in sequins and really sparkles, but it’s only been worn a little bit.”

But Chris wasn’t alone in experiencing in the hilarious moment.

Channing called out from the crowd, ‘I need that back, I have to work later!’ as the camera focused on him.

Robert had a great time announcing Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler’s first Oscars wins of the evening for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay, but he also fondly remembered winning his own awards two years prior.

Before winning the 2024 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Oppenheimer, he thanked his wife, Susan Downey, for always being there for him.

During his Actor Awards speech, he explained why he included his wife among the incredibly talented artists who have inspired him. He said it’s because for 22 years, she’s brilliantly played the role of a stable, happy wife to an actor – and done it flawlessly.

The Iron Man actor has often publicly expressed his love for Susan, especially on their wedding anniversaries and to celebrate important moments in their lives. For example, when celebrating his wife’s birthday in November 2022, he shared a touching message acknowledging everything she does for their family.

He beautifully described mothers as the core of any lucky family – a strong, caring figure who protects, guides, teaches, and is always a friend. He then wished Susan Downey a happy birthday, adding that she embodies all of these wonderful qualities – and is fun to be around, like a big bag of chips!

Robert revealed the secret to his long-lasting marriage in a 2020 interview with Parade: he and his wife simply enjoy spending time together.

Honestly, I completely agree with her perspective. He admitted he doesn’t always have the best take on things – he basically said he wasn’t brought up with the right mindset, so his opinions might be a little off sometimes. I respect that he recognizes that and defers to her judgment.
