Robert Downey Jr. posted a drawing of Doctor Doom as an Easter basket on Instagram, and it quickly gained over 412,000 likes.
A comic illustration shows Doctor Doom carrying a basket of Easter eggs. Each egg is decorated with the symbol of a different Marvel hero, like the Avengers, X-Men, and Captain America’s shield. Fans quickly noticed one egg seemed to feature Spider-Man’s logo, sparking a debate about which version it belonged to, and another commenter wondered if it was Venom’s symbol.
Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Doctor Doom in the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026. The Russo Brothers announced his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, following his iconic role as Tony Stark/Iron Man. The screenplay was written by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
Avengers: Doomsday features one of the largest ensemble casts in MCU history.
The film brings back Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Anthony Mackie returns as Sam Wilson, now Captain America, with Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier. Joining them are Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing.
The X-Men have officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Patrick Stewart reprises his role as Professor X, alongside Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Plus, Ryan Reynolds is back as Deadpool.
Filming for Avengers: Doomsday started on March 26, 2025, and finished on September 19, 2025. Newton Thomas Sigel was the director of photography, and Alan Silvestri created the film’s music. As the 39th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sixth phase, it will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, set to release on December 17, 2027.
