For years, viewers of the popular comedy series Peep Show have hoped for a film adaptation. Now, Robert Webb, one of the show’s main actors, has shared his thoughts on the possibility.
I’m a big Peep Show fan, and I was really hoping for a movie! But Robert Webb was talking about it, and he’s not convinced it would work. He thinks the way the show is filmed – like we’re seeing everything through Mark and Jez’s eyes – just wouldn’t translate well to a big screen movie. It’s a shame, but I get what he means – that first-person perspective is a huge part of what makes Peep Show so special!
The shaky camera work and perspective could make viewers feel motion sick, possibly even more than the disturbing actions of Mark and Jeremy themselves!
Showing just the shaky camera footage on a large screen would be really disorienting for viewers, and that’s likely why Sam and Jesse have hesitated to use it.
Robert Webb, recently seen back on screen with David Mitchell in their Channel 4 show Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping, mentioned he’d be hesitant to do another film.
He explained that extending a short TV show into a feature-length film doesn’t always work well. While it’s possible, he felt that Peep Show thrives in its current format and they shouldn’t risk making a drastically different movie just for the sake of having one.
But could diehard fans ever see a TV reboot of the series that came to an end in 2015?

I was chatting with David Webb at the Rose d’or Awards, and he was saying how a revival of our show would be totally different now. We’re both a lot older! The original really focused on two thirty-somethings and the will-they-won’t-they of their relationship, and that dynamic would obviously be changed with us as we are now.
If a couple is in their fifties, still together but deeply unhappy – both personally and in their careers – it’s clear they’ve missed their chance for a fulfilling life together. The decision has been made, and there’s no going back.
I was so happy to hear Webb talk about his time on the show! Even though he doesn’t plan to act again, he clearly feels a real sense of pride in how popular it became. He even admits he loves it when fans still quote lines to him – it’s just wonderful to see how much of an impact it had, and how fondly he remembers it all.
You know, I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of Peep Show. I really feel lucky to have worked on such a brilliant show. It’s funny, the way people react to it though. Sometimes it’s polite – ‘Hello, Mr. Webb’ – and other times it’s just a shout of ‘Peep Show!’ It definitely changes depending on the day.
I wouldn’t expect peace and quiet at a college bar, naturally, but there are definitely other places where people don’t notice me at all.
