The story of Robin Hood has been told many times, but the new MGM+ series offers a fresh take. It promises a romantic and emotionally complex version of the classic tale, with a focus on realism and historical detail unlike previous adaptations.
This 10-part series, created by Jonathan English and John Glenn, tells the story of Rob, a young man born into a Saxon forester’s family, and his love for Marian, the daughter of a Norman Lord. Set in the Middle Ages, they fight against injustice: Rob leads a group of outlaws, while Marian works undercover within the royal courts to achieve freedom and fairness.
“We both really enjoy all of these shows,” English explained. “I’ve always been fascinated by Robin Hood and the Middle Ages, and I love seeing those stories on screen. Like a lot of people, I grew up watching the Kevin Costner version, and I even liked the more recent Russell Crowe film.”
Glenn noted that there have been many excellent versions of the story over time, including the Walt Disney movie, which he considers one of the best and is widely enjoyed.
We aimed to create a story that was fun, funny, and full of action, but also explored the character’s beginnings in a realistic and believable way. This meant showing aspects of the origin that weren’t included in previous films.
But who can you expect to see in this reimagining?
Sean Bean stars as the Sheriff of Nottingham, and the cast includes both well-known and up-and-coming actors.

Jack Patten as Robert of Locksley

Robert of Locksley is the main character of this story – he’s the man who will become Robin Hood. As a Saxon who experienced the Norman invasion as a child, he grew up amidst conflict and power struggles. This shaped him into the leader of a group of outlaws who fight for justice by taking from the wealthy and giving to those in need.
You might be wondering where you recognize Jack Patten from. While this is his first time as the main actor in a TV series, he’ll soon be appearing in the Netflix movie War Machine, directed by Patrick Hughes.
Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham and Lauren McQueen as Marian

Priscilla is the Sheriff of Nottingham’s daughter and a powerful woman who knows how to get what she wants. Unlike Marian, she’s strong-willed and can be quite ruthless.
You might recognize Lydia Peckham from her roles in shows like Mr. Corman on Apple TV+ and Cowboy Bebop on Netflix. She’s a rising actress from New Zealand, and she even played the CGI ape, Soona, in the recent film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Okay, so Marian’s story is a really interesting one. She’s the daughter of this seriously harsh Norman nobleman, the Earl of Huntingdon. Basically, she grew up in a pretty awful home where everyone told her what to do. But when she was a kid, she met this Saxon boy named Robert, and that one encounter totally threw her carefully laid plans off course. It’s a classic setup, honestly – a strong woman fighting against a destiny she didn’t choose.
Many people recognize Lauren McQueen from her role as Lily Drinkwell on the British soap opera Hollyoaks, where she starred for two years. She’s also been in the series Masters of the Air on Apple TV+ and Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Sean Bean as Sheriff of Nottingham

The Sheriff of Nottingham is a clever and powerful leader with a family – he has a daughter named Priscilla and is related to King Henry II. He faces constant threats from bandits hiding in the forest and from powerful people like Eleanor of Aquitaine who want more control. He’s committed to maintaining Norman traditions and authority, and he’s willing to be strict to achieve that.
Many people recognize Sean Bean from his memorable roles as Boromir in The Lord of the Rings and Eddard (Ned) Stark in Game of Thrones. He’s also been in recent shows like This City is Ours, Time, the series Snowpiercer, and Amazon’s Deep Cover, giving him a long and varied career.
Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon

The Earl of Huntingdon is a harsh Norman nobleman who takes possession of the Locksley family home – the former home of Robin Hood’s parents, Hugh and Joan. He’s also Marian’s father and works with the Sheriff, though he often pursues his own goals as well.
Ever wondered where you’ve seen actor Steven Waddington before? He’s been in a lot of popular TV shows and movies! You might recognize him from roles in series like ‘Slow Horses’, ‘The Long Shadow’, ‘Jamestown’, and ‘Waterloo Road’. He’s also appeared in films including ‘The Imitation Game’, ‘Uncharted’, and ‘The Last of the Mohicans’. Plus, back in 2007, he played King Richard in the BBC’s ‘Robin Hood’.
Marcus Fraser as Little John

Little John is a key member of Robin Hood’s group of outlaws. He’s one of Robin’s most devoted followers, fighting alongside him to challenge the unfair rule of the Norman nobility.
You might recognize Marcus Fraser from his roles in Apple TV+’s Foundation, the series The Outlaws, or the films Transformers: The Last Knight and Arthur’s Whisky.

You might recognize Angus Castle-Doughty from his roles in several popular projects. He’s well-known for playing Eric Foster on the TV show Hollyoaks, as well as his appearances in the film The King’s Man and the Netflix series Shadow and Bone.
Henry Rowley as Will

Will is Rob’s cousin and a man torn between two very different lives. He grew up in the countryside, raised by his Saxon family, but was sent to London to serve the King at the palace. He’s eager to escape his rural upbringing and is determined to climb the social ladder.
Ever wondered who Henry Rowley is? He’s a TikTok comedian, actor, and stand-up performer, and this marks his debut on television.
Connie Nielsen as Eleanor of Aquitaine

Eleanor of Aquitaine was a powerful and influential queen. In the film, she’s portrayed as a strong leader who inspires other women to take control and fight for what they believe in. She’s a formidable woman, and anyone who challenges her should be wary.
Many people are wondering where they recognize Connie Nielsen. The Danish actress is well-known for her work in several popular films and recently returned as Lucilla in Gladiator II. She’s also famous for playing Queen Hippolyta in the DC superhero movies Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, and Justice League. Other notable roles include appearances in Mission to Mars, Nobody, and The Hunted.
Richard Lintern as the Bishop of Hereford

The Bishop of Hereford is a powerful and ambitious character in this story. Sent by the Vatican, he wields both religious and political authority in England. While loyal to the King and representing Norman control, he also uses his position to harshly control the Saxons, working closely with the lords and the Sheriff of Nottingham.
You probably recognize Richard Lintern from his popular role as Dr. Thomas Chamberlain on the BBC’s Silent Witness. He’s also been in several other TV shows, including Endeavour, Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, The Reckoning, Lewis, and had a part in Heartbeat.

She’s deeply devoted to and protective of her brothers. Ralph quickly develops feelings for Rob and wishes he would fall in love with someone like her, rather than Marian.
You might recognize Erica Ford from her work on the TV series The Nevers. She also played Skipper in the 2023 Barbie movie and appeared in an episode of House of the Dragon.

Spragart is a clever Saxon who makes a living by poaching and stealing. He unexpectedly joins forces with Rob and his band of outlaws, becoming a valuable ally as their operations grow larger.
You might recognize Ryan Gage from his roles in popular shows and movies! He’s probably most famous for playing King Louis XIII in the BBC’s The Musketeers. He also appeared as Alfrid Lickspittle in The Hobbit films, serving as an aide to the Master of Laketown.
Oscar Salem as Marshal, The Earl of Pembroke

Let me tell you about Marshal, the Earl of Pembroke – he’s a really fascinating character. He’s Eleanor’s right-hand man, someone she completely trusts and confides in. But beneath that loyalty, he’s incredibly ambitious, and he’s also got his eyes on Priscilla, the Sheriff’s daughter – a bit of a romantic pursuit on the side!
You might recognize Oscar Salem from his roles in the TV series Des and House of the Dragon, as well as the film The Substance.
Graeme Thomas King as Prince John

Prince John is Richard’s younger brother and the son of King Henry. While he has a legitimate claim to the throne, he’s also considered a threat.
You might recognize Graeme Thomas King from his role as Jeremy Beckett in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. This show is a spin-off of Pretty Little Liars and inspired by the novel The Perfectionists by Sara Shepard.
Tom Mison as Hugh Locksley

Hugh Locksley is Rob’s father and used to own Locksley Manor. After the Norman invasion, the Earl of Huntingdon took his land. Hugh is a proud Saxon who feels strongly connected to his homeland, but he’s finding it difficult to adjust to life as a fugitive in the forest. He’s angry about the Normans’ dishonesty and unfairness, and he needs to control his temper to stay alive.
You might recognize Tom Mison from his popular role as Ichabod Crane in the TV show Sleepy Hollow. He’s also appeared in several other projects, including the mystery thriller The Ex-Wife on Paramount+, Apple TV+’s See, and films like One Day and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.

Joan Locksley is Rob’s mother and often serves as a calming and rational influence on both Rob and Hugh as their family adjusts to their changing circumstances.

Matija Gredić as Drew Miller

Have you wondered who Matija Gredić is? He’s a relatively new actor, and you might recognize him from the war movie, Battle for Castle Itter.
Mihailo Lazić as Henry
Henry is the youngest of the Miller children. He’s very bright and observant, but he can’t speak and needs help from his older siblings to get around and understand things.
You might be wondering where you recognize Mihailo Lazić from. He’s a newer face in the industry, but he wrote and directed the short film Tur De Zur, which came out in 2025.
Boban Marjanović as Drogo
Drogo is a fearsome, silent enforcer who works for Guy Gisbon. His sheer size and unwavering stillness make him incredibly intimidating.
Okay, so you’re wondering where you recognize Boban Marjanović from? Well, this Serbian actor has been popping up in some pretty cool movies! I’ve spotted him in Hustle, and if you’re a fan of Adam Sandler, you might remember him from Happy Gilmore 2.
