Robin’s Death is Now a Crucial Part of Wonder Woman’s History

The tragic death of Robin, Jason Todd, had a lasting impact on Batman and his allies, and now it’s connected to Wonder Woman’s story as well. Most comic book fans know that Jason was brutally killed by the Joker in the famous “Death in the Family” storyline, an event that deeply affected Batman. However, Jason was later brought back to life with help from Superboy-Prime, and he now fights crime as Red Hood, working alongside Batman and the rest of the Bat-Family.

Recently, the story was changed to show that Jason (Robin) met a time-traveling hero just before his last mission as Robin. In the Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman comic series, it’s revealed they were friends, despite Trinity almost creating a time paradox by letting him know about his future death. What initially seemed like a strange and unsettling moment has now become an important part of Wonder Woman’s history. As Trinity finishes her time travels, she asks Robin to play a key role for Wonder Woman and her family.

Robin Death is Needed for Steve Trevor’s Upcoming Revival

The sixth and final issue of Elizabeth Marston Prince’s solo series, Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman, by Tom King and Belén Ortega, wraps up her journey. Trinity successfully finds the last corgi that started everything, which leads to a meeting with her father, Steve Trevor. It’s a strange encounter, as Trinity never knew Steve because he died when she was very young. Despite the circumstances, they connect quickly and enjoy what little time they have together, though Trinity knows Steve’s life is about to end.

Elizabeth and her father enjoy a nice afternoon walking and talking in Washington D.C., finally discussing all the questions Elizabeth has always had for Steve. They share ice cream, but the peaceful moment is shattered when Trinity unintentionally reveals Steve’s impending death, detailing exactly how and where it will happen. A heavy silence falls between them, and Trinity desperately pleads with her father to disregard the potential consequences for the timeline and skip his meeting with the Sovereign.

Steve knows his death motivates Diana to revive Elizabeth, so he’s determined not to alter the past. He does promise to return, but Trinity realizes he can’t escape the underworld on his own. She enlists a friend to guide him. While Steve’s spirit crosses the river Styx, he encounters Jason Todd. Trinity, aware Jason will be resurrected, asked him to help Steve escape, and Jason agrees.

Without Jason Todd’s Death, Steve’s Resurrection Would Be Impossible

It’s true that, officially, Steve Trevor is still deceased in the main DC storyline. His brief appearance in the ‘Trinity’ series has been his only sighting since his death last year. However, having followed comics for a while, I suspect writer Tom King wouldn’t create such a dramatic cliffhanger or focus so heavily on time travel without it having a significant impact later on. What is surprising is that this storyline has unexpectedly made Jason and his murder a key element of Wonder Woman’s history.

Trinity needed someone very specific to help rescue her father from the underworld: a person she knew could die and be resurrected, someone strong enough to survive the journey, and, above all, someone she completely trusted. Jason turned out to be perfect for the job. It’s a dark thought, but his death might actually lead to something positive. If the Joker hadn’t killed him, Jason wouldn’t be able to help bring her friend’s father – and Wonder Woman’s true love – back to life.

This all hinges on the idea that Steve will be resurrected this way. It seems unlikely the ‘Trinity’ series would focus so much on Jason and end with such a dramatic cliffhanger if he wasn’t going to play a key role in Steve’s return. It’s also surprising to realize Jason’s death deeply affected two superhero groups – it fractured the Bat-Family, but will likely be crucial in reuniting Wonder Woman’s family.
